Break locks on more than one wheel
My understanding is the reason there's only one is so that the gurney can move to a more stable position. 2 locks will increase the chance of the gurney tipping over.

more space to put belongings (ive transported a few patients that seem like they are going to a 1 month trip overseas)
Two options that help if your company has them. First, if they have the side life bars you can hang bags off of those. Second, if you have the base storage tray or net you can load stuff up there (most companies I've seen use it to hold a blanket since a blanket on there won't mess with loading the cot).

To the OPs, have you considered doing a ride along someplace and getting first hand experience with gurnies and seen crews working with them? Watching a crew in action will show a lot more than words on a forum.

yeah ive seen those, some of our gurneys have the net and some of them dont, but its still not enough sometimes.


well if one tips the gurney while using 2 breaks, they possibly are doing something wrong, and there should be a choice to use one or two breaks..

ive been in plenty of situations where 2 breaks would have been very helpful, like fore xample while transferring from dialysis chair to gurney(long way) .. one break usually does not cut it. yes sure i can try to tuck the footrest on the head of the gurney to keep it in place but that sometimes dosnt work
 
Brakes are a major issue, and trying to stabilize the gurney while transferring a pt always seems to be a pain.

I think some sort of foot peg system to keep the entire gurney stable would be good. You know how you go to home depot and they have the rolling ladders with the feet? You just step on the bar and the feet go up, wheels down, and on another bar and the feet go down and the wheels up? This seems so logical for a gurney to keep it stable when ever you don't need it rolling!

That's my main gripe. I use a Stryker Powerpro. Love the thing to death.

some of our stryker gurneys have a Kickstand, which is kinda that idea, we use it to keep the gurney stable while weighing the patients, but i certainly wouldnt use it as a break (it can go back up easy)
