Watching Chicago Fire.....
they administered narcan under the jaw. Never seen this, is this just tv being wrong or what???! Does this happen?

I didn't see the show, but it IS just a TV show, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Maybe he had an ej in and the med port was down on the front of his neck?

Like N7 said its a TV show. But I'd recommend a whole salt shaker....

Are you sure he injected it into the jaw and not into the nose?

I've heard of this! It's IM but also gets absorbed faster by the mucosa. There's also a way to diagnose vfib by checking the carotid artery. [\sarcasm]

No def directly under chin into sublingual. looked it up. Sublingual narcan is a thing! guess I just don't deal with it enough. Anywho. They also said atonal breathing to someone who had no agonal breathing. Sad they can't make tv medically accurate, it ruins it for me. ha

Chicago fire is an awesome show to critique, especially the ems side.

I saw the episode.

Sublingual would be under the tongue into the oral mucosa. This is not what happened.

They administered Narcan via deep injection under to the underside of the jaw. In reality with the length of the needle they used, it would have gone through the full depth of tissue, and transected the tongue spraying into the oral cavity.

Totally fake. It just looks cool to the uninformed when you jam a needle through someones face.

.

Maybe they were just trying to use a different approach to reach the oral mucosa.

It was like a 3" needle and they drove it the full depth up to the edge of the syringe

I want that added to our protocol.

I looked up the episode, she was injecting it straight into the oral mucosa because the patients jaw was clenched, anyone know if this would actually be possible?

How to use Narcan...

Look up the drug enclosure, or call a pharmacist. (They are treated like human Pez dispensers, many really like helping someone learn something).

Chicago Fire is to EMS as Chicago Hope was to hospitals. Good soap opera.

I watch that show, but it gives me hives and I'm not even in the field yet. It's fun to yell at it though ^_^

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

It's television. If they made a show about how EMS really is no one would watch it.

Alright, continue with your bickering.

What about emergency?
