Does anyone know the regulations with working in any of the Canadian Providences with our EMT certifications whether its National or State? At the moment I am a certified New York State EMT soon to be NREMT, but also want to be eventually become a medic would also be be nice to know if with current certifications I that would suffice as prerequisites for medic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Maybe in nova scotia I think. But only after a lot of begging and paperwork. Honestly the hardest part would be the visa.

There are many threads about this here, including a detailed one on the reciprocity process. Just search “Canada” and your questions will be answered.

any of the Canadian Providence

Actually it's provinces....we're short on providence at the moment. Plus we have a few territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) that aren't considered provinces.

Try in nova scotia

Each province will have its own association. I would suggest contacting each one that you are interested in working with. Labour shortages/surpluses may determine what they are looking for and how easy it is to get in.

My wife is canadian and when we considered the move, Nova Scotia was the best bet. It's still a long, drawn out process. There are several web pages that explain if you search US to Canadian paramedic reciprocity

Do you mind elaborating why? I have been reading up on this and I think NS had the highest cost of living and lowest wages compared to several other provinces, with BC and AB being the top in wages, Ontario and Manitoba being higher in the list as well.

I have two degrees and am now seriously looking north. I do not think I can sustain another 4 years. Would love to transfer both Paramedic and RN and it seems very doable from what I have read thus far. My other options are Aus, NZ and Belize. :)
