Hello All. I am an emt going through the national registry medic exam process. Can anyone advise which textbook book better prepares one for the written and practical exams: Mosby? or Brady? Also, does anyone know of a master medication list for the exam? Every book seems to have drugs that the other does and vice versa. Is there some list out there that contains all the possible drugs that could be tested? Thanks in advance.

First, welcome to the community! I hope you stick around a while and continue to post. There are a lot of smart people here that can give you some great advice and pointers.

Having owned all of three textbooks, I can confidently say that I believe Brady's is leaps and bounds better than the others.

Master medication list? Epi? ASA? O2? Nitro?

Edit: Forgot nitro

Paramedic Meds and NREMT-P exam

Just to provide additional info. regarding my last med post, I have completed my paramedic studies and am in the testing process for EMT P. Per my last post, each book seems to have different meds that the others do not. I was wondering if there was some master list of all the possible meds that the national registry could test on. Mosby has theirs in the back of the book and Brady says to refer to the spiral paramedic drug guide. Then Brady has their own pharmacology textbook. My instructors said all of those sources have too many drugs to learn and that it would be impossible to learn them all.

Any and all advice appreciated. J

Great question. I'm not sure where nremt gets their drug info, probably form multiple sources. Having taken and passed the nremt-p exam with a 95% overall, my advice is to not worry very much about medications except for ACLS meds. Know those backward and forward. Also know the other basic meds like dextrose, narcan, etc. If you have actually taken the time to compare med lists in brady and mosby, you are way ahead of the game and should do fine on the exam.

My personal preference is brady because i want to be just like Dr. Bryan Bledsoe when I grow up, just an M.D. instead. However, I have found very useful info in Mosby's paramedic book too, so my advice is read them both!

AAOS... wait.. was that a choice.. ummm nope, but I find it to be the best on the market... Jones & Bartlett is the publisher.
