Greetings:

You find a person face down on the road.

A board and collar are indicated.

Do you get the collar on first ?

Do you roll them and then put on the neck collar.

Thank you in advance.

Manual c-spine followed by log roll. If you can't examine the patient, how do you know that spinal immobilization is indicated (alright, I'll give in. An unresponsive patient with unknown mechanism should get immobilized pending a shift in the standard of care). Immobilization is more for transport than anything else. So manual c-spine, roll the patient, assess and begin treatment.

Don't forget to examine their back before you finish turning them over. Don't check the back when they're prone, rather when c-spine is being maintained, and they're log rolled halfway from prone to supine.

That's actually a good point. If the board is handy, you can always roll directly onto the board, just don't secure it yet.

And I'd even wait a few seconds to grab the board... less movement for the patient is SUPPOSED to be better.

Thank you for the replies.

Thank you for the refresh everyone.

My first shift I had a board and collar of a motorcycle rider found suppine.

A month later a passenger who had been walking around.

In four month that is all I have been part of.
