The post-shooting events for a LEO, while it will involve an investigation, are quite different than how non-LEO shootings are handled. This is thanks to a Peace Officer's Bill of Rights... Also, if you're doing your job within the scope of your duties and you follow lawful policy in the use of force, you have some significant protections from being civilly sued.

It is rare for me to hear that a LEO shooting was unjustified.

I also know someone who deals with civil suits against a certain large city, they do happen, a lot.

We have one locally that is attracting attention. Arrestee in handcuffs shot through the cheek with an AR-15 while secured in a patrol car. Long story, the officer thought he was producing some sort of weapon.
Anyway..just thought it would be food for thought in the "we want armed EMS" debate.It isn't all about hardware and "warrior spirit".
