Question for you AMR Employees.

I have been goin through the Central Valley of California (alameda county, stanislaus county, San Joaquin county) putting in Applications at AMR, and have not received a single call back. They all have similar application packets asking for the same things; original copy of H6, copy of social, drivers license, certs, m.e. card, etc. What I want to know is there anything I can do to get a little bit of attention with my application packet to give it a nice bump to the top of the pile. I never know what to do with the outside of the Envelope, if I should just write my name on the outside or type out something and label it "Application Packet for: Name" I really want to go to Paramedic School and would like to have an EMT job when and while I do so, any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you,
Chris

Have you tried applying on line? If you apply for one of the actual openings they have, you will get a call quick. I did that and was hired 2 weeks later.

Stick your application folder on the top a full pizza box and have it delivered at lunch time.

LOL at the pizza remark.

I looked online and the open positions are nowhere near me
The San Joaquin location has it's own website, and does not have an employment button or anywhere that lists available positions. I'd like to go to EMSTI to continue my education and they require 1 year of 911 calls as a prerequisite. I want to hurry up and get a job, from what I have heard they are in the middle of a hiring freeze..I have heard that it is supposed to lift in February...hopefully

My recommendation, is to call up every branch and ask them if they are hiring? and if not when do they think they will be hiring? and how long your application will be on file for

HAHA dude, you must be top of your class in medic school!

As far AMR gos. I have interviewed with them twice and both times the spot was not online. I contacted the AMR recruiter in my area and she told me about the stuff and helped guide me.

Really, you contacted the Recruiter.. I like that. I contacted the Alameda county HR office and they only gave me info on the San Joaquin county hiring freeze. I'm not too worried about the interviewing portion, it's just getting to that point that is killing me.

OP, the areas you are listing have a 100-200 person wait list for EMTs. Submit your applications however you wish; in the end, it is gonna end up at the bottom of the pile. If they are still doing what they use to do, you might get a letter every 3-6 months stating that "you are now number 86 on the list" and then 3-6 months latter one that says "you are now number 62 on the list" and so on and so on. If memory serves, in some cases it could take years to make it to the top and in some areas (especially those with high turnover due to serious internal issues that make employees run screaming to the hills) you might make it to the top in 10-15 months. When you do reach the top you will be given the same testing and interview as all the others that submitted applications around the time you did (no matter how preety you try to make the cover letter).

200 waiting, wow. I personally know a 2 guys that got in, in 2 months. I have been waiting for a little over 2 months now though so I do believe you, it's just I don't want to  I was hoping if I called and bugged them enough in a good way I might move up the list..keeping that whole squeaky wheel gets the grease mentality.

It has been awhile since this subject was at all a concern of mine, and i do not know much about Alameda County, other than knowing a few Medics and EMTs that worked there... but as I remember, the wait list for Stanislaus and/or Turlock (they operate as seperate entities) was about 12 months, San Joaquin County was closer to 18 months or more, and Calaveras County (when AMR was in CC) could be over 2 years. However, while it was this way several years ago, when it comes to the Evil Empire who knows what devilish methods they now have. It use to be a "first apply = first tested" method in the areas Central Valley divisions of AMR.

Lame I would assume that the paramedics wait list is shorter as there are less of them? I guess the best thing to do is just be persistent, and hope. My current manager is friends with the operations manager in San Joaquin maybe that's a plus^_^

I should add we are on a hiring freeze in Portland also with AMR... anyway find the recruiter on the AMR website for your area, get a hold of him or her and get the story.

Not an AMR employee, but I turned my app in at the office and just called bi-weekly. ALCO is hiring atm, by the way. Or they're going through the process at least.
