Are you referring to your EMT-Basic license, or drivers license?

If you have a current California EMT license (MA doesn't have an "ambulance driver certificate" like California), then you would need to get Massachusetts EMT license prior to being about to practice in MA.

You will more than likely have to do their emt. B written exam.

You will have to do their EMT written exam, but it's better than having to repeat the course or take the practical in addition to the written. Also, the licensure timeframe starts when you take the exam, so if the OP is near the end of his CA license, he doesn't have to do CEs to maintain his license (although he does or do a "recert by exam" to maintain NREMT, but NREMT is not required for MA licensure).
Do you know how different the MA written exam is from the NREMT? I have heard that the test minimum score is 70% but I am not sure how the test works. Is it broke up into sections like the NREMT? And I'm guessing the protocols are going to be different so I am not sure how to study and prepare for it. Is there a book or website I can go to so that I can see the differences in protocols.

It's a minimum of 70% per section. It is broken up into sections, however it is not an adaptive test (think a normal paper exam given on a computer). Be familiar with the MA protocols, including the pharmacology of ASA, albuterol, and epinephrine.
