Hi all recently got my ADL from DMV in California. One question after they give you your temperary (as long as you didn't lie on the application) can they still refuse your cert? I did my live scan (cleared), medical (cleared) and have my EMT-B. Seems kind of stupid if they would after they give you your temp thats good for six months. Just wondering ........ oh and please don't get in arguments about being called ambulance drivers like on the last post about California ADL ha ha. Thanks again.

Okay I live and work in sourthen Cali, what the hell is an ambulance drivers license I never had to get one.

To the OP:

I guess they could reject the cert at any time, be it temporary or not, but they're going to have a reason to revoke the certification. Is there a reason you can think of for why they would revoke your cert?

Could it be because you're on da big red truck that the Engineer drives for you? :P

To the OP you may want to call the California Highway Patrol, apparently they are the ones who produce the handbook.

Oh find out if they are still looking for me when we cut them off on the 105 northbound last year, I'd like to avoid a ticket if at all possible B)

hey I frive an ambulance as well, and I still don't have an ambulance license. So who needs it and why?

You don't have the Ambulance certificate on your license? Seriously? Or are you being a smart-arse because it's technically called the "Ambulance Driver Certificate" and not a "license".

Oh, and are you amiodarone's brother? :P

seriously I don't have a ambulance cert/or license, and I do work on the ambulance oten, in the academy they never mentioned it so who knows, or maybe FD's are exempt. No iam not amiodarones brother, too expensive.

I'm not sure how it works in the failed state of California, but here's how it works where I live.

All employees are required to obtain an AVOC License within six months of employment. However, AVOC courses are few and far between, so the state allows the ambulance service to train drivers as part of new employee orientation. The ambulance service holds its own formal AVOC course about once a year for those who don't have an AVOC license.

So basically, unless you have been trained and are being closely monitored by the EMS agency, driving without an ambulance license is against the law.

Failed state? Eh, Comrade, the Peoples Republik of Kaliforna is as strong as ever!

It says at the front of my Ambulance Driver Handbook

"Driver Certificate Exemption. Ambulance driver certificates are not required for the following:
(1) Persons driving ambulances in the line of duty as salaried, regular, full-time, police officers, deputy sheriffs, or members of a fire department of a public agency. This exemption does not include volunteers and part-time employees or members of a department whose duties are primarily clerical or administrative in nature."

I got my ADL a few months ago, they give you a temp and send you a permanent one in less that six months, (i got mine in a month). the temp is like the same as when you get a paper DL and your plastic one comes in the mail a few weeks later. Usually if you have a reason to be denied they will deny you when you get your Cert.. i have not heard of a case yet of a person being denied after they got their temp..

note the Perm ADL looks almost EXACTLY like the temp they give you except its white (its still paper)

Atopine: Do you drive the Ambulance majority of the time?

At least you get a specific driver's license for driving an ambulance. Here we are required to have a chauffeur's license. Talk about lower than low, I won't be an ambulance driver, I am literally a taxi service.
