Hey all, I was wondering who here has some software on their PDA for ALS? I have a couple different ones, one from medicalwizards (i think) and the other is from informedguides.com Im not too pleased with the medical wizard one but like the informedguides better. Just curious to see who everyone uses and likes? Thanks for the help

I'm not even an EMT-B yet (still in training), and I don't actually have a PDA at this time, either...But when the time is right, I'll have at least the PDR on it.

$$$$$

ePocrates has a decent version for free, and a better one for a subscription.

I use the following on my Treo 650 (the ones I paid for have a $ sign after them):

BioChem 1st Responder/WMD SWAG $
ER Suite $
Mobile EMS $
EMS Field Reference
ABG Decoder
EKG Waves
Hazmat Toolkit $
MCI Medic
Medic
Palm EKG
RN Emergency $
O2 Tank
Trauma
Triage

Some other highly recommended programs are:
Adobe Reader for Palm OS
iSilo (and iSiloX)
Handbase

Crap, you would ask the hard questions. Let's see if I remember them:

BioChem 1st Responder/WMD SWAG $ http://www.arkansoft.com
ER Suite $ http://www.medicalwizards.com
Mobile EMS $
EMS Field Reference http://www.palmtree.ca
ABG Decoder http://www.metaworks.com
EKG Waves http://www.ogannes.com
Hazmat Toolkit $ http://www.pocketmobility.com
MCI Medic
Medic
Palm EKG http://www.palmems.com
RN Emergency $ http://www.palmtree.ca
O2 Tank http://www.metaworks.com
Trauma
Triage http://www.palmtree.ca

I pulled these from the programs themselves, so the sites may not be active any more. The way I found them was doing google searches for "palm os emergency medicine"

Hmm...I downloaded it for free from the publisher of the PDR, Thomson Healthcare. http://www.pdr.net/ Registration is free. mobilePDR is free. It includes drug lookup, drug interaction, and alternative medicine info.

Is there something about the $$$$$ versions that makes them better PDRs than the PDR publisher's PDR?

No, I wasn't aware that they had come out with a free mobilePDR, that's all. But thanks for the link, since I now have it.

Let me know if it's any good. I can't try it out myself (since I don't have a PDA yet). I'd probably pay for something if it was better (depending on the price and how much better it is).

How do you like your Treo? I've been leaning towards Windows Mobile myself. But I may go towards Palm OS if there's a strong preponderance of EMS-related software for that platform.

In the past, the preponderance of software has been developed for the Palm OS, but that is starting to change. I've used a pocket PC before and found that it was trying too hard to emulate a desktop computer, therefore it was very slow and prone to crashes.

I love my Treo 650, and have no plans for upgrading to the 700 or any other PDA in the near future. This thing does everything from running my EMS software (already listed), opening my office documents (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), eBook reader, Adobe PDF reader, mp3 player, video player, camera, camcorder, phone, calculator, date book, address book, surfing the internet, checking my e-mail, and SMS messaging.

The mobilePDR looks pretty good so far, and doesn't take much space on the PDA.

Honestly I don't know if I'm even going to get a PDA. I also need a cell phone and a laptop computer (the laptop isn't for use on EMS calls, though, of course). I've been considering getting one of those Windows Mobile phones (like the Motorola i930 for Nextel). If I get one of those, and a laptop, do I really need a PDA, too? I'm not sure yet...
