I thought that National Registry required a college level A&P class prior to sitting for the exam but I cannot find the requirement anywhere.

Is this true? If anyone has a link it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

No.

Some paramedic programs require A&P as a pre-req, but a significant number do not.

No, you do not need A&P to sit for the written test.

In a short while the NR will require you to come from an accredited program, and the program can require A&P, but the registry does not.

That could be watered down A&P as well, so in short no you do not need it for the NR.

Appendix e of the 1998 Paramedic National Standard Cirricula has about 5 pages of A&P objectives which in theory every Paramedic program should cover. You can download the PDF herehttp://www.nhtsa.gov/people/injury/ems/EMT-P/disk_1[1]/Intro-E.pdf

Now those 5 pages of objectives are quite good, not to dissimilar to the BSN level A&P I have taken (and that we must take as part of our BHSc Paramedic here).

However, are you trying to tell me that every program out there teaches these in the few hours spent on A&P, I know people who say "oh we spent one day on it" or "yeah, that anatomy stuff was only like 6 hours".

I think not.

I have taken more than the requirements for BSN programs - two semesters of combined Anatomy & Physiology, a semester of anatomy, multiple cadaver labs, a semester of Women's A&P, and other semi-related courses that A&P are a big component of such as Nutritional Chemistry, Psych, and Human Growth & Development; all at a University....

...and I still feel like I know absolutely nothing :\

Can't even imagine being a confident, competent paramedic with even this background... never mind no A&P or just 6-8 credit hours of it.

...a semester of Women's A&P...

Where do I enrol? :P

Seriously I only have what I've learnt out of the Marieb book, one or two DVDs that came with said book and a lot of independant research. I feel I don't know enough surely but I do have enough of a functional grasp to know what is happening, where, why, symptoms, little of patho etc.

I can't immagine anybody with less knowledge being on the street.

Oh wait, those who take our Ambulance Technician course already are.

That there are programs that don't require at LEAST 10 credits of A&P with lab, simply amaze me.

I, like many of you, have taken multiple science courses. Aside from the requisite Biology, I took A&P I & II, microbiology and chem. I still feel lost with much of it, yet there are people in my medic class who took the bare minimum, a 5 credit "A&P survey".

Sad.

Thanks guys for the info. I could have sworn I seen before where it was a requirement but obviously not. It should be!

Be careful what you wish for. The course was a blur of the professor's extremely redundant and completely irrelevant feminist diatribes and weeks of strange birth videos, including my favorite - a Russian woman giving birth while squatting in a an oversized aquarium in her living room as her whole family watches - including all of her kids. Her young daughter (under 5 yo) hops in the water and helps guide out the crowning head.
