    Volunteer Departments???

I was in my basic class with guys from Trenton. I know they are volly, you may want to check there.

Rant about how much volunteers are hurting our profession

In my area there are some agencies that one could easily tell are vollies. Then there are those, mine included, where you can't tell the difference between the vollies and the paid. As far as vollies not providing a good level of care, well in our county there are 3 ALS departments, 1 paid and 2...

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

I agree 100%!!! It is completely agency based, yes we know what the DOJ and some states say. However, it is local government and agency based. The city I work for has a Director of Public Safety, he has 3 agencies that answer to him and they are: police, fire, and ems.

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

The fire fighter is a first responder, and the person is in a house thats on fire. It makes as much sense as you talking about a doctor cutting a ring off of somebody's finger.

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

Fire Fighter uses a pry bar to open a locked screen door at a house where there is a person trapped in the burning house. Medical or not?

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

I didn't say that it was public safety, I simply said that extrication is not medical. The medic in the car doing patient care while we are cutting is medical, but the guys with the jaws and such are not doing anything medical...well maybe its car surgery.:)

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

I agree with ResTech, some people have forgotten it was personal opinion. I know what the DOJ says, and yes Vent thats fine. However, how can I, and my agency as well as many others, be strictly medical if we do extrication? There is nothing medical about cutting open a car.

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

So R/r according to your statements, does that mean law enforcement and f.d. are not public safety? Just from what I got out of your post made it seem like they aren't. Also in your last post you said seat belt classes are P.R. but in your post before that you asked if people provide seat belt...

Is EMS Medicine or Public Safety or both

I think it differs between agencies. My agency provides extrication, fire rehab support, and limited SAR, as well as our ALS services. So that is why I voted both, then the ems agency next to us in our county provides just ALS, so they are just medicine. There have been many good points on...

A quick rant about last night..

To all the ones who were telling biggee to suck it up, and its part of the job, I have read many "Professional" ems members on here complaining about the same thing or even more pathetic things, like "oh the previous crew went on a late in shift run, and when they got back the rig had a full...

Lights and Sirens: School Buses & Traffic at Reds

    1. Shut off siren, come to a complete stop, if the children are still on the bus and the driver waves us through, then we are to proceed at no more than 5mph past the bus. If children are off the bus and ALL motion for us to proceed as well as the bus driver, then we do the same as above. 2...

Where do you keep your BVM/Combi-Tube?

We have minimum 5 bvms on our trucks. One in the first-in bag, one in each of our two trauma jump kits, one in our peds kit, and one in the truck in a cabnet.

How do you base your Ambulance Replacement ?

Ours is by age. Up until 3 years ago, my service was a private non-profit, from what im told, company. We have 3 trucks, an 05, 97, 90...the 97 has 45,000 more miles than the 90 but we are getting rid of the 90 just because of the age. It runs and drives good, it just needs a lot of help that we...

Does your service run special services ?

We run extrication and other basic rescue services. Mostly it is extrication when we do something other than typical patient care.

Why would someone, who is on the job, have a

I don't know about you, but I would hope that I have been trained enough to be able to get a seal on a mask. Depending on where in our territory I am, it could be at most 15 minutes until the truck gets there, so if I can't get a good seal then I, or anyone who couldn't, should not be in EMS.

Why would someone, who is on the job, have a

My service requires all members to have a mask in our pov. We are a poc service, and are expected to assist in our response area if we witness something happen. As for on duty, when we are responding to station they are in our pov, but once in the truck, we have bvm's. I think we have 5 or 6...

Sorry, **HEAR it on a scanner.... it has been a long day. Forgive me for my mistake Bossy Cow.

    post recent calls

There is nothing wrong with posting the nature of the calls that either you have dispatched or you have been dispatched to. If someone can here it on a scanner, then it isn't a violation of anything.

Do you really run, or just walk?

I have only run once on scene. We were delivering a baby and the medics told me they needed more towels ASAP, so once I was out of the house I ran to the truck and back, but not in the house where I could be seen by the patient and her husband.
