EMTlifers,
I ordered a copy of Paramedic Practice Today Vol 2 and the seller shipped me a copy of Volume 1 instead. Since I can't reach the guy to request a swap, my loss is your gain. If anyone either has (a) current version of vol 2 and wants to swap it for vol 1 or (b) wants to buy a copy...
Let's talk precordial thumps! What did you think I was talking about, you deranged medics...
Some questions and some thoughts. Yes, I know it got bumped from ACLS, but my personal stance is that if I witness an arrest (confirm they are pulse less, someon, etc) I am sure as hell going to thump...
reposting because I clearly put it in the wrong place originally. It's worth checking out...really a beautiful diagnostic process.
just remember, when in doubt apply cream.
No but that's a good one too. Foot strike test involves giving a sharp rap to the bottom of the patients foot with the leg stretched out in front of them. Ideally they are supine for this. As the force wave travels up through the body it "pings" where it hurts when an organ is involved. It can...
Dude. Don't base decisions of any importance to you off of the opinion of people you don't know on the internet. If you want to take the test, call the NREMT and attempt to schedule the test. If there is something you need to accomplish before you can test they will tell you, and you can either...

Heh. In these cases I like to apply a dimensional screening process to my patients. Begin trauma work up on all patients equal to 3D, call coroner for all patients presenting in 2D. Call bariatric ambulance and fire bubbas for all patients presenting in greater than 3 dimensions on arrival
While I think this would work, it would probably hurt like hell to have your finger wrapped up in dental floss because it's so fine. I've heard of the dental floss method as well; but personally prefer the NRB strap. Just speculation though. If you do use the floss, be sure to push it through...
Anyone else use the foot strike test to help identify acute visceral pain vs something more generalized like peritonitis/gastroenteritis? It's one of my favorite field diagnostic tricks.
Here's a scenario that is more arts and crafts than medical knowledge. Your patient is a 67 year old man with a hx of right wrist fracture 24 hours earlier. After it was set and casted at the ED, he returned home and went to sleep but woke up to find that his left finger had become severely...
