As many have pointed out, it all really depends in the area you work for. For example in Los Angeles county it makes perfect sense to get your paramedic if your a firefighter or plan on going with a FD than getting it for a private ambulance that isnt the sole 911 als provider. I have been a EMT...
Look, if you really want to come to LA county. Your best bet at making a decent amout of money will be going with a IFT company. I hear liberty pays their medics 21 an hour . If you want to transfer out here to santa clarita or any division of amr the pay wont be so great but thats why we have...
Do yourself a favor and transfer somewhere else. Like everyone here has said, You are just a gurney jockey for county and a ambulance driver in the eyes of many. you won't use any of your als skills. You operate bls until fire arrives and takes over . The only time you do use your special skills...
Do yourself a favor and go with the big animals . Why on earth would you settle for all town ? Those guys are a bunch of morons. If you want to perform shady runs and walk around every hospital thinking your a badass ( untucked shirts, boots bloused, not strapping your patient on the gurney...
It depends where you work, for example in los angeles county . The county has absolute control of the scene and can decide what medical treatments are done and what can the private ambulance paramedic can do ( being the gurney jockey ). Even if the private ambulance were on scene first they must...
You can also be a set medic for movies or tv shows. Try out working for a stand by for any event like a concert or a sport . I know amusements parks hire emts . Good luck
Welcome to gainzville ! Time to pay the toll to get swole! In other words start hitting the gym. That means start lifting bars and doing squats and build that extra muscle that you need, no offense but i seen females lift more than you.
When i used to run a few of those dialysis calls i was professional with the patient and the whole aspect of patient care. What i tried to say is what is so cool about running those calls when many of those patients only require a wheel chair van and rarely a gurney van. Hopefully soon enough...
AMR is just about numbers, the scary part is they can do that anytime with any division. Its been done in the past where they lay off everyone and leave the county because their numbers arent growing. Business is business. Good luck my fellow R/M comrades.
I heard horror stories from socal ambulance. This on chick said she would clock in to work but didnt know when her shift ended since they dont tell you that. Please apply to the big animals like many of the members have said. Your skills deteriorate. Good luck .
Keep applying to jobs that require EMT like ER tech or medical standbys . I would keep practicing my skills if i were you. Dont be that guy onscene who doesnt know how to c spine someone. Good luck out there man !
