The "proper" way to restrain someone in EMS

Ideally this is training that your agency should have strongly emphasized as it presents a tremendous amount of liability. I'm not aware of any specific techniques that are right or wrong, so I'll largely state the obvious. It's heavily discretionary and the way that one would restrain a CVA...

    Question about HIPAA

One of the Medicare criteria for BLS vs WC transport is that they are unable to sit erect for the duration of the transport. I appreciate the creativity in using a BLS rig as a WC van though. There are plenty of patients who spend all day every day in a wheelchair that would be unable to...

What's the dumbest thing you've said to a patient?

I don't know about you, but I would say that, generally, feeding a combative patient's delusions, especially encouraging them to lick an ambulance floor, falls under "doing harm" Just my opinion though. Then again, this thread is about the dumbest things said to patients.

Probably not the best approach. Primum non nocere and all that jazz..

Is it hard to get hired after passing nremt

If you can swing it financially and your area doesn't require EMT experience prior to medic school, I absolutely recommend that route. You'll also be that much closer to not worrying about being old enough to get hired, with much more earning potential. :)

    Single Role FD Medics

Mono County. I don't know anything about how it's run, but they run the Mono County Paramedics as a third service. EDIT: Oops, just caught another post saying the same thing. I'll show myself out.

    Code 3 IFT?

Though I made an ignore list, I apologize, I confused you for another member with a similar username having issues with professionalism at their agency. I do think getting neuro patients to a capable facility in a timely manner is important, but not at the expense of provider safety like many...

    Code 3 IFT?

Emergent IFT services such as CCT contracts with guaranteed response times exist for a reason. If you're calling 911 in a situation covered by emergent IFT contracts, you're unnecessarily drawing resources out of the 911 service. Some county protocols even specify that 911 should only be as an...

    Code 3 IFT?

Sounds like ****ty personal judgement, commensurate with the other poor professional conduct you're experiencing at your service. Code 3 should never mean faster, it's just a loud and bright suggestion that regular traffic should yield. Anyone who drives otherwise is an *******.

    Code 3 IFT?

Oft it's protocol to go loud and blinky for any known threat to life and limb, regardless of known clinical outcomes.

    Code 3 IFT?

That's highly variable and depends on the company. IFT companies run SNF->ER all the time. Often its abnormal labs and doesn't require a code 3 tx. However, an AMS call that turns out to be positive on the Cincinnati sometimes get transported BLS because their ETA to definitive care is close...

    Stethoscope - The Mega Thread

This. Yes it's pretentious, and yes it's expensive, but NIBP modes on monitors always fail when you need them most. Dual lumen, single tube steths are always a good bet. Don't leave it in a rig when you're off shift and don't loan it out. Mine looks terrible from use and I'd notice if someone...

    Belt

Actually when I'm carrying concealed I like to use a cross draw shoulder holster for my portable suction. I don't want to print and have any sheeple freak out. I think the PUMA has a great capacity for its size.

    I need perspectives

Having your name and location, along with a litany of very specific complaints about a higher up makes you exceptionally identifiable.. I'd be very careful what you post on the internet. Even if your comments have merit, openly discrediting peers and superiors in EMS is highly frowned upon...

    STEMI transfers

AFAIK, medics are not regulated by EMTALA. If a medic were to be conscientious enough to transport a patient with an HMO to an in-network facility, thus foregoing an unnecessary IFT transfer down the road, and such decision didn't adversely affect the patient, I can't see why there would be any...
