Combat medic thinking of going civilian in Phoenix AZ

I got an offer from PMT this week as a -B, $9.60/hr, 48hrs/week with the option to pick up an additional 12. ER techs can make a little more, but that's a real tough market to get in on. A buddy of mine who works for PMT told me their medics make between $11 and $12/hr, I haven't verified that...

How much of your military experience HAS translated to civilian credit?

68W Healthcare Specialist (Combat Medic) - graduated AIT in April 2010. I came out with my NREMT-B, but since I already had that going in, I didn't really gain anything additional. I talked to someone who went through the course with me who said their community college gave them an MA...

    New 68W Training

When I graduated in April '10 that's not how it was. Granted there wasn't quite as much pharmacology as I would have liked, but I guess that is more of a unit-specific skill.

    Name this medical device

Hmm, interesting. Is there a way to refill water in the superior bottle when it runs out, or do you just have to change the bottles out? EDIT: I suppose when the superior bottle ran out, that would mean the inferior bottle was full, so you have to change them out anyway.

    Thought's on Pulse Oximeters

You're right, I read top and assumed he meant superior. Guess I dug my own grave on that one <_< And you're welcome - it's my pleasure to serve.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk by correcting you, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, but I think maybe you mixed up your directions.

    "Panic Code" Emergency Procedures

We don't carry pagers, but the dispatch software is set up to text the Chief's phones, so essentially it treats their personal cell phones like pagers. We have one dedicated radio channel, as well as one inter-agency channel that PD officers, as well as several non-emergency agencies, can...

    "Panic Code" Emergency Procedures

That's kind of where we've been lately, but with some recent incidents, we're trying to firm things up a little bit. I'd hate to have to explain to someone why we weren't prepared for the worst.

    "Panic Code" Emergency Procedures

Hello everyone, I'm working on a "panic code" protocol for my volunteer EMS agency. It's supposed to describe in detail what exactly happens when a panic code is declared over the radio. For example, Dispatcher attempts to gather further information, Dispatcher calls PD and gives them crew...

    ride alongs in Phoenix Az

Read my post again. I didn't say that there weren't contact numbers for the stations, I said that there wasn't a contact number for ridealongs. The number I gave for admin is a good starting point.

    ride alongs in Phoenix Az

Where are you getting this info from? There is no one contact number for PFD ridealongs - instead, they are scheduled by the individual companies. You can start with PFD Admin at 602-262-6297. If you do not arrange for a ridealong, you will not get one. They aren't included in the AZ...

    Volunteer squads- minimum participation rules?

At our collegiate volunteer squad, we hold members accountable to whatever they tell us they can give us at the beginning of the month. For example, one member might say they can work 8 hours that month, and another might say they can work 40 hours. As long as the first person works at least 8...

    Anyone here work in Arizona?

Most of the FDs hire at 18, but they all happen to be on hiring freezes right now. PMT says they'll hire at 18 for non-driving attendant jobs, but they have so many applicants over the age of 21 that they never have to resort to hiring non-driving attendants. ER tech is your best shot...

    Fire fighters die for what???

I like the Phoenix Fire Department's strategy: We will begin our response on the assumption that we can protect the lives and property. We will risk our lives a lot, if necessary, to protect savable lives. We will risk our lives a little, and in a calculated manner, to protect savable...

    Junior fire fighter duties.

The closest we have here in Phoenix is a Cadet program. They are very few in number and very well trained (considering that they're volunteer cadets), and even then they are not allowed to fight fires, extricate, or do anything that requires donning an SCBA.
