    Baltimore City CRT/Medic

Applied for this position. Anybody here work for BCFD as a emt/medic? I see that the posting does not have an end date. Are they hurting for medics? Just curious if anybody has any insight on the hiring process. I have about 2 years 911 experience as a medic. Thanks!

    Cardiac Arrest Frequency

Nope, standard AHA guidelines. It was a pretty crazy month and a lot of those arrests got early CPR and defib from police first responders equipped with AED's. It is a pretty phenomenal ROSC and discharge rate and it's certainly not typical for us.

    Cardiac Arrest Frequency

We ran 800 calls in Jan. 16 were cardiac arrests. 8 had ROSC and as of now, 5 have left the hospital neuro intact. This is an abnormal month for us though, we usually get around 8 or 9 per month.

emt in need of advice from all around the U.S

To OP: You asked for examples... I work as a medic in Iowa. Dual medic trucks, county based system. Fire dept are our first responders. Pay is good (union/pension.) This model seems to be common in all the counties that surround me. (Non-fire based, county funded EMS systems.) When you get...

emt in need of advice from all around the U.S

Not OP but I'm a NREMT-P in the midwest that will be looking in the MA, NH, ME area within the next few years. I've browsed online for jobs (just out of curiosity) but have not really found much for non-fire based 911 ALS. Any ideas on where one would look?

    Taking NREMT on a Friday?

Took mine 0945 friday, got results around 2 or 3 pm. Your probably too late on Friday for same day results. I think you have to wait till Monday.

    NREMT prep sites, which one?

I test my Paramedic in a week. Here are my thoughts: JBLearning: I did not pay for this but found out that you can use the demo password and pretty much take as much practice tests as you want. I found the questions to be challenging. See here and scroll down to the "try it now." If you like...

    Fisdap paramedic module exams.

I purchased it for study purposes. We also took one in class here last week (we are 2 months until done with school.) I found the test to be very difficult compared to medictests and other sites that I have been using for practice. I also was told that it is more difficult than the NREMTP...

Have you been a career EMT/Paramedic and if not what did you do first?

First got EMT when I was 18, did a lot of volunteer EMS/Fire. Got into computer science stuff and didn't like my job. Decided I'd rather make much less money doing something I enjoy. Be finished Paramedic in a few months. 33 year old career change...

Medic school hours count towards EMT CE?

Yeah, I'd rather not take the exam and pay again. I've just been through several semesters of classes including ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, PEPP etc so I have plenty of hours if all that counts. Plus I have enough studying to do for my national Paramedic in a few months.

Medic school hours count towards EMT CE?

Yeah, I'm gonna give them a call. I went ahead and put my hours in anyway so we will see what happens. I just don't want to let my B expire even though I will be testing for Paramedic shortly after because I don't know how that would work.

Medic school hours count towards EMT CE?

Awesome. I figured they would count. Thanks!

Medic school hours count towards EMT CE?

My EMT basic is going to expire before I finish paramedic school. (It expires in March and I will be done paramedic in May.) My question is, do I need to make sure I have the CE hours to keep my national EMT basic cert? My other question is, can I count class time from school towards any CE's...

    Do Police-Paramedics exist?

Maryland uses Paramedic/State Troopers for their helicopter service. I bet it would be quite fun to have dual certification

    ER Tech training

We do all ED EKG's where I work. You were trained for 4 hours about how to operate the machine/put on leads etc. Then you had to do 10 supervised and your set. No analyzing, you print it off and take it directly to a staff Dr. Blood draws were taught by other NA's in the ED. We only do...

    NREMT affiliation working at Hospital?

Yeah, we are considered Nursing Assistants and not ER Techs. I can certainly see why I would not be able to use it as affiliation, like others said, I don't perform all of my EMT skills on patients. I just didn't know what I should do about affiliation, since I don't have the time to...

    NREMT affiliation working at Hospital?

No I don't. I guess it won't matter much though if I'm going to transition right into Paramedic before my certification would expire. Easy enough for me to get continuing education credits where I am so..

    NREMT affiliation working at Hospital?

Finished up my NREMT written today and passed. I don't currently have any EMS affiliation locally, but I do work for a Hospital Lvl 1 trauma center as a Nursing Assistant in the ER (in Iowa.) Would this count as keeping up my EMTB skills even though it's in a hospital setting? I don't see...
