    Halloween 2013

I transported a man earlier whose complaint was numbness to his lower lip after chewing on it. That was my excitement for the night.

I love all of these ideas! I'm going to ask my boss if we can do something like this at this year's party.

Anyone work full time through Paramedic school?

I did. I worked 72+ hours a week, had class 3 days a week, and did clinicals as well. It's very possible, but you can say goodbye to your social life. The last few months of school I had maybe 1 or 2 days to myself. I wouldn't change a thing, though. Time management, motivation, and dedication...

My partner slammed on the brakes, and I (nicely) asked her to be more careful. She got pissed off and once we got to the hospital, she said, "Was that a smoother ride for you, master? It wasn't my fault!" .....Really?

How does your company number its ambulances?

The company I work for operates in 4 states. One state has trucks in the 100s, the next is 200s, and so forth. I know that at least for the state I'm in, each county's trucks are separated by 400s, 410s, and 430s. Each county has 3-4 trucks, so for example, 410, 411, 412, etc.

    Desensitizing?

When I first started in EMS 3 years ago vomit and the sound of someone vomiting totally freaked me out and make my stomach turn. As gross as it was, I forced myself to look at it and the person as they got sick. Over time it got better and really doesn't bother me that much anymore.

Yep. There is a trailer park we go to that has a gate like that. I always feel a bit guilty about having to do it at 3am..

Totally not looking forward to my 72 this weekend. We have 3 units that stay pretty busy to cover our county that has a population of about 11,000. This weekend we're expecting 40,000-50,000 bikers for a bike rally. We're adding 2 extra units... but still. We've been told that at last year's...

We will soon be losing the back up cameras to have black boxes installed with the button in the back we have to press when spotting the driver.

What do you use for a watch/timepiece while on duty?

Baby G. I normally hate wearing watches, but this one is comfortable and fits my small wrist. It's easy to clean as well.

How do you communicate with patients who don't speak English? Does your service have a translator hotline you can contact? We don't, and I always feel like I'm playing charades to get answers to some questions.
