    stethoscope

My first one was a Littman Classic II SE, loved it. However, about a year ago I purchased an Ultrascope...and by far it is my favorite...wouldn't trade it for anything. I still have my Littman, use it as my spare...just in case something happens to my Ultrascope.

    New EMT-B advice

You'll be just fine. Confidence comes with time, the more and more you ride and get used to the environment the better you will become. It takes some people longer than others, and if you have someone you're close to at work...talk to them and see what they did when they were fresh out of class...

    ALS or BLS?

That is ALS all day long where I'm from, and I'd hate to know I had turned this over to a BLS crew...bye bye job.

Whoops! No Valium in our box

Right now we still have enough Valium for all of our trucks to be stocked, and have plenty for re-stock. However, last employee meeting it was discussed that we will be getting Ativan to have on hand, if/when we run out of Valium.

Worst Anaphylaxis I've seen in a while...

No we do not carry Zantac or anything of the sorts. However when we arrived at the hospital, that's the only thing the doc gave her. He ordered 300 of Pepcid for a drip. ---good point with the glucagon that's often forgotten. Do y'all have standing orders for that? (I know we have to call when...

    Women in EMS

I am a female, and personally I don't have much problem with being underestimated as a female in EMS. My first partner was a female and she was 5'0'' and I'm only 5'6''. Our motto was "anything y'all can do we can do better." We earned respect from the males we worked around. I currently now...

Worst Anaphylaxis I've seen in a while...

Working a stand-by at the local county fair...when my partner and I were hanging around at the "first aid" tent. We noticed a girl rushing up to us, and behind her was a female with extreme swelling of her lips, also noticed up her left arm was breaking out with hives. Once we got her on the...

You know you are an EMT/Paramedic when...

    - when you're the only one that can't openly discuss how your day at work went while at the dinner table. - when you can have a conversation about brain matter being splattered on a windshield of a MVC while eating spaghetti...and never think anything about it. - when you're sitting in a...

You might work for a private if.....

As far as exposed tattoos go, I think it all depends on the agency. I know our county ems, and all other 911s around here (public and private) don't mind tattoos. I have 2 visible and no one has ever said anything to me. However, the ambulance service that is a part if our hospital has the same...

How did you begin your EMS career?

As far as immediate family goes...none of them are in ems. So I was the "odd ball" when I chose it as my career. When I was 17 I began doing heavy rescue, well then it got me started on an ambulance. I got my emt at 18, and have been doing 911 ever since. I never did IFT...

    Hey NC EMTs, question

I know the company I worked for would offer transfers. Because lots of coworkers came from MA, OH, etc. I used to work with AMR. I know they will transfer from out of state to NC but I'm not sure about hiring. It would be worth a shot. Every company has their own guidelines as far as hiring out...
