    Dubai Paramedics getting sports cars...

The state of Virginia says as long as you're operating as an emergency vehicle (lights and sirens) and exercise "due regard" you have no speed limit. But then the county I run 911 in has to go and put a limit on it to 10 miles over the speed limit! Honestly, talk about cramping my style...

How do you deal with bystanders with cameras?

I know this is off-topic, but do many people have the same philosophy of "putting themselves in the patient's shoes"? I suppose we could spin this off into another thread if need be, but I've never found this to be a particularly helpful position to take when rendering patient care. The phrase I...

Ebola: first case hits the US

Screening at the airport, much like current TSA screening, is political theater. There is no real added benefit to safety. Shutting down the airports for flights "from" West Africa (whatever that means) would be counterproductive because it would make us feel safer without actually making us...

Why don't some like the fire mix?

I think it's a hypothetical that we can't yet translate to reality. Fire is, in many cases, where the best medics will go because of pay, pension and stability reasons. However, the best firemedics I know do it for the medicine and the fire is part of the job because the job is the best a medic...

Ebola: first case hits the US

Do with this what you like. Listen. One person has ebola in the entire United States, and he contracted it in Africa.

    EMS Agency Ebola Plan

Can't really base what mortality rates will be in the US off of West African stats... our health care system is light years ahead of theirs, and basic supportive care is often the difference in surviving vs. dying with ebola.

Liberian traveler brings Ebola to Dallas, TX

Fear-mongering is a truly democratic act, crossing all political, religious and socio-economic boundaries. It brings a tear to my eye. Our founding fathers would be proud.

Who writes/types the PCR EMT or Paramedic in your agency?

AIC finishes the PCR, but when I was precepting AIC (as an EMT) the medic would often have me complete it. He/she looks over it, of course, but it's less paperwork for them and they trust me so... Comes down to trust I suppose, as do many things. Does your medic trust you to complete paperwork...

In Which States is a Paramedic Certified vs. Licensed?

I've heard the terms used interchangeably even though the difference is pretty important. In VA both are certified.
