EMT and Paramedic positions open in Orlando, Fl

I'm not sure I understand what "exclusive contracts requiring emergency response" means. I hear interesting things about Falck NE, and would love to learn more. Does this mean SNF emergency contracts? Urgent care or outpatient healthcare? Event or private property standby? Does this euphemism...

Got my first job as a medic! Not allowed to drive though

Meh, I don't think its a big deal. Overall, I think its a good idea for a new medic to tech all (or nearly all) calls for their first 6 or 12 months. Focus on being the best patient care provider you can be and driving your personal vehicle safely.

    Insurance situation

With that said, in some states if you get in to a motor vehicle accident while at work (or get pulled over/given a ticket in some cases), resulting in points or a surcharge, its attached to your personal license, and could cause your personal vehicle insurance premium to go up. In general, these...

No, it should be mailed to you, that's what they've done in the past. If its been more than a week, shoot them an email.

    How long for MA reciprocity?

Are you trying to certify in MA using NR, or do you need verification forms from MA to go somewhere else? In general, certification based on NR is taking 2-3 weeks (sometimes closer to 3), verifications 2 weeks...

ROSC after giving D50 in cardiac arrest?

Are finger sticks really reliable in a patient in extremis or in cardiac arrest? Is a venous blood sugar any better? I doubt there are studies on it.... If we know there's no pathophysiology for hypoglycemia causing CA, why are you looking for anecdote of Dextrose helping?

    The Media Is My Friend…honest!

I think we fail to be our own vest advocates often. We should be proactive about tooting our own horn, getting our good news stories into the press. Those same sensationalist reporters who we are scorning also loves the field delivery by long time partners or the community CPR class, or the...

    Alternatives to Epi-pen???

Auvi-Q seems to be the new, vogue version, for consumers. At the pricepoint it is advertised at, it may also be useful for EMS.

    Alternatives to Epi-pen???

Yes, there are actually several available. --Auvi-q, looks like a pack of cigarettes or deck if cards, but is also equipped with a speaker and gives audio instructions. (~$40 less than Epi-Pen brand.) --although manufacturing has stopped, Greenstone medical has a generic epinephrine auto...

    EMS employment in MA

Ding, ding, ding. Each of these companies has been burned many times by the migrant nature of college students. You don't work shifts promised (often quantity), leave before they can make back their investment in you (orientation), and don't particularly contribute to their "community"...

    EMS employment in MA

H&H was formerly Boston Health and Hospitals, which became BPHC; its BostonEMS. All of the privates go in waves of hiring. Right now it appears to be Fallon, American (Falck) and EasCare. The real question is where you want to work and what kinds of calls. As others have said here and...

How much does it cost to recert or re license where you work?

As of this year, I pay $125 + $20 for NREMT. NR EMTs pay $125 + $15, at min, the max is non-NR medics who pay $125+$25. My state just changed its recertification process, but its refreshing I now pay less than before, as the NR fees are incorporated.
