That's a good idea. I wasn't quite so smart. Let's just say that it's 3:44 of my life wasted. 3:44 that I could have been reading emtlife instead.

The Philips MRX units we use have an optional "puck" that is placed between the patient's chest and the Hands of the person administering CPR. It provides visual feedback as the the depth of compressions and the rate. The data is stored in memory and can be reviewed latter. I don't know if...

Failed The NREMT 3 times - Refresher in Los Angeles/Long Beach

Testing is a good measurement for many, if not most, individuals. But there are those that are outliers. There are poor test takers. There are great test takers. Just because somebody has a hard time passing the test doesn't mean they won't do a good job. Conversely, just because somebody passes...

Note to self... When writing vitals on the incident response form think about what you are writing. I was given respiration as "9 times 4" so I wrote down 36 without even thinking that the number was contrary to my observation of the patient.

Good point. I'd forgotten about that part. Target dead ahead, 2,000 yards and closing.

I want my own personal AED ! ( New York )

The AED that the OP specifically mentioned, and included a link to the marketing material about, is a layperson, follow the prompts and pretty pictures, style unit. I doubt any but the most wealthy would want to be carrying a full on monitor in their POV.

I want my own personal AED ! ( New York )

So how does it differ between an off-duty EMT or Paramedic acting as a layperson carrying their own AED, and a full time layperson (i.e. your everyday person on the street) who grabs an AED mounted in a public location? Both are acting as a lay person. I thought the Good Samaritan laws covered...

    Oxygen D tank refilling

A lot depends on where one is located. We are a rural combined department with volunteer EMTs. Oops, I guess that's a couple strikes against us. :) Our EMTs carry oxygen in their vehicles. AEDs are carried by a variety of folks, both EMT and firefighter. The bottom line is our ability to get...

    will my misdemeanor disqualify me?

One big question to OP; were you only charged, or were you convicted. Very big distinction. Your original post only states that you were charged.

My first CPR was a solo arrival with 2or 3 minutes before the next person arrived and a total of probably 5 minutes before the cavalry arrived. Not a good outcome, was probably deceased before I even arrived on scene. But you still have to keep pumping. Yeah it sucks. Took me a few days to start...

Going to be staged at a bike ride this weekend. I have a few questions!

We did a mini triathlon two weekends ago. We treated 3 bee stings, if you include the dog with a stung paw, one fatigued and probably dehydrated, one tumble that resulted in abrasions and a minor laceration, and one other minor that escapes me. All in all it was a fun day in the sun. Oh yeah...

A scientist/physician addresses peanut allergies: NUTS

Sadly it's worse than that. Our society, at least in the USA, is of the increasing mindset that if anything could have been done to foresee and prevent a problem than it should have been done, and if it wasn't done than you are liable. Shakespeare had I right I fear.

You might try contacting whoever does the hydros in your area, see if you can pick up a cylinder that failed, then just cut off the top of it. Of course that leaves you trying to find a yoke and regulator as well. Maybe check with a service company to see if they have any junkers.

    "Nothing prepared me for it..."

There in lies the rub. Frequently the "best" is an opinion, or the result of thinking carefully through all the various options and discussing it with your peers to see which would be the best solution. But the reality is that when you encounter an unexpected situation you do what you think is...

I'm really new to this and boy are mistake easy to make, at all level. My first two 12 leads I had the left and right leg reversed, the first one I caught, the second one the medic caught. Embarrassed? You bet! I think that it's everything being new that does it. The simple things aren't yet...
