I wouldn't say it will "count against you" persey, some people benefit from field experience. If you can swing it, by all means, do it.

For you, use it as a learning experience. For the Medics, they were sloppy and should have removed the ice pack if there was obvious gross deformity. How did they splint if the ice pack was still on his arm?
