    I hit my goal!

I just wanted to share that it's been 5 months since I went to the doctor and found I had hit 201 lbs, 40 lbs heavier than when I moved here 11 years ago. I have been working out regularly, but not enough to justify putting on 40 lbs. My clothes got tight, my energy level dropped, my eating...

R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me!

You have to remember in my original post that we do have to stand whenever anyone other than an instructor or student enters the room but not just anyone can enter the room. The doors are locked and no one other than students and instructors comes to our class unless invited to do so by the...

    EMT-IV class dress code

Honestly, I don't have any problem with the standing part. I don't remember describing it as "standing at attention". We stand, we're told to sit, and we sit. It's happened all of 1 time so far. It gets the thought into my head: "When this happens, this is how I respond".

    EMT-IV class dress code

That's exactly what happened to a couple of people last night. We started class with a test on 3 chapters and some important info. 2 people missed it. I will be willing to bet they'll either never be late again or they'll never show up for class again. Either way, the purpose is served. Back...

    5.11 Tactical Pants?

Dark green polos B) I tried on a blank one and it was nice and comfy. I hope it stands up to my toxic sweat as most green shirts get "bleached" spots on them the first time I wear them and sweat a little.

    5.11 Tactical Pants?

I'm not exactly sure  We were given instructions to go to a specific store, try on a blank shirt, and pay for 2 of them to be made, but they never actually showed us what they'll have on them....probably something with the school logo and EMT student? I'm sure the word STUDENT across my...

    5.11 Tactical Pants?

Ok, I bought my first pair today. One of the local military surplus/LEO supply stores had them in stock. I fell in love with them first thing! I also needed some decent black shoes that can take a beating and some polishing and decided on the 5.11 ATAC 6 low cut boots. They're great....can't...

    Hi everyone!

Cool deal - welcome aboard! There is a dispatcher in my class and he's been charged with relaying the roll call to the instructors in case a class is canceled at the last minute (all 4 instructors live in the on call world).

    EMT-IV class dress code

LOL - not much that I can see. The doors are locked when class starts and again after our break, so no one from outside will be entering unless they're specifically invited. Even our tardies will be stuck outside until break time because the instructors don't want distractions.

    EMT-IV class dress code

We spent about 45 minutes of my first class going over the rules for proper attire and classroom etiquette. We have uniforms which will be required on the 4th night of class as well as picture ID cards. Shoes will be polished, shirts tucked in, hair off the collar, and no facial jewelry is to be...

    Long drawn out short courses

The course I'm taking is 213 hours of lecture/practicals + 64 hours of clinicals over a period of 9 months. I'm actually very happy that it's taking that long because I need the study time on top of being able to work full time. Without the full time job I wouldn't be able to pull this off.

    Trying School Again

Good luck! There's a guy in my class who is on his 2nd go for EMT-IV. The instructors gave him a hard time in a fun sort of way. I hope it goes well for you!

who here like to shoot in their spare time?

LOL I don't have any pics of mine....they're kinda shy :P I do have a Mossberg 500 that I put a home defense barrel on as well as a pistol grip. I also pulled the plug out of it. Then I have an old British Enfield .308 rifle that I've been working to restore. I've got the bolt action...

    First night of class....

Well, I have 3 P.A.s, 1 medic, and 1 FF/EMT in my immediate family and a surgeon as a good friend, so I'm sending them all emails to see if they have any extra equipment they'd like to sell.....or better yet, donate to the "family fund" ;)

    First night of class....

All I can say is....WOW! There's a load of info to remember just from the "orientation" class. I've got uniforms to buy, equipment to find, paperwork to gather, immunizations and signatures to get, chapters to read....and gotta get my CPR card asap! It's a little overwhelming when I think of all...

    Basic EKGreading course...online

Thanks for the input! I read the excerpts from Dubin's book on Amazon and it seems like it will be great for teaching me how the EKG works. I'll look at the other books listed as well. I'm a fan of buying used, so I'll be picking up what I can of these off eBay, Amazon, etc.

    Basic EKGreading course...online

I saw this on my school's website and I'd like to know if it would be worth my time to go ahead and take this online EKG course at the same time that I'm going through the EMT-IV program. Click me - I'm a link I've never taken an online course before, so I'm a little apprehensive about it...
