Thanks for the advice. I'm about 185lb and stand 5'10" a little extra baggage but not much. I'd love to loose 10lbs but I'm happy where I'm at.

Any volunteer FFs in the house?

We do NOT staff our station, we are 100% volunteer day and night. We all respond when we can and most are from home. Good luck, stay safe and have fun learning.

Does anyone use anything other than Motorola radios and pagers?

Ken wood in my area is less expensive than Motorola. We use icomm, we don't use pagers for EMS.

    Why NOT...

MedicPrincess... I am sorry to hear you had a bad weekend as well. I am glad to have a place that I can come to and get support. The worse part for me is I keep seeing everything that we did for this girl and nothing worked. I can't understand why a mother wouldn't strap her child in...

Funny one liners you've said to overheard to a patient

It was my second day of training on my new job doing transports. I was in the back with another EMT going over pt Hx. I am reading over the Hx and said to my partner "HIV/AIDS risk" the pt got really upset and said that better not be in there, I quickly realized what I did and turned to the...

    Passed!

CONGRATS! Here in NY it is a 4-6 week wait on the written, unless you go two hour travel for on the spot scoring! I did that last winter in the middle of a snow storm, a normal 2 hour drive took us four hours and night in a motel room! CONGRATS again!

    Becoming a better EMT...

I have been working for a company for about five months. I started riding with a medic about three months ago. I am getting better at helping the medic when it is a an ALS call. But I was wondering how to become a better EMT for a medic? How do I learn the supplies they carry?

    Why NOT...

I live to love/hate this field! I have been on some other pediatric calls but nothing serious. I feel for anyone who looses someone close to them. Oh and you didn't hijack the thread, this is what we are all here for SUPPORT!

This has probably be done before...

I started out with my volley squad. I work for a company that I started out doing BLS tranfsfers and I am currently working an ALS rig for the company.
