    Altered female

Narcan was mentioned as a diagnostic tool, although it probably wouldn't have crossed my mind to use it either. If we're thinking along the lines of dystonic reaction, 50 mg diphenhydramine..

HAve you been battered by a patient or bystander?

I have been attacked and injured by a patient on the job; no tx I worked in a college town for 4 years. Fortunately, we had Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. I liked the training because taught us how to quickly form a plan of action with whomever you are. The tactics to hold...

Finished Classroom, Never Finished Clinicals. Options?

deep breath in through your nose..and out through your mouth.. Don't crumble because some events took place that were out of your control. Just settle down, clear your head, and regroup; meeting with your clinical coordinator should help as I'm sure the both of you can come to a conclusion with...

    Look, its the ride along!

I agree with everything everybody else has been saying. Having most recently been a student and having precepted other Basics while I was working as one, I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly on both sides of the fence.. ..and with my paramedic program, if you were sent home from a...

    Balancing EMT shifts and college?

It's definitely possible. I worked regular part-time in our ER here in town while I had 18 credit hours a semester. Did I learn quickly how to balance work, school, gf, and a social life? You bet your bottom dollar I did. Still walked away with my BS and cumulative GPA of 3.92.

IV Sticks - AEMT noob tips and tricks?

When I began my clinicals, my first few starts were in the ACs. It gave me a good idea as to what I was feeling for when I palpated hands, forearms, etc, as well as technique. Worked well when you do encounter those dehydrated 80 year olds. Just remember that when you get to clinicals, you...

    Let's meet your dogs!

This is Kipper. She was dropped off, for some reason, at the Reptile Rescue League in a nearby city. The vet thinks she is pitbull/whippet. I never have her on a leash and she doesn't bark.. ..much.. lol She's got some scars on her nose, neck, and legs, which makes the vet think Kip was a...

    clinicals

I couldn't agree more with what everybody else has said. When I was doing my Paramedic clinicals in-house, I would clean and stock rooms (it may have helped that I was an ER tech for 4 years). If you show them that you're willing to get your hands dirty and not sit on your butt, they will come...

What took you longest to learn?

I discovered that while I may not know exactly what is going on, I have to think about whether or not the findings of my assessment would change my treatment. And discerning whether the problem was repiratory or cardiac.

    Another ACLS Question

Well, when you defib a pt with vtach or vfib, the defibrillator is going to make the rhythm asystole because it's restarting the heart, so if you dont go right into compressions, youll see asystole, so give good, high-quality CPR.
