    Volunteering

I believe you can get your state EMT at the age of 16 in North Dakota... I was 17 when I got mine. Had to wait until I was 18 to put in the papers to get my NREMT. I volunteered for a year before going on to medic school. I was the youngest person volunteering there at the time. People were...

    Protocol for pediatric hypoglycemia

Talked to our Clinical Supervisor and she is going to add the protocol. Up until now we have been taught what to do, and are just expected to know what to do after we call a physician. But now it will also be in words under the pediatric considerations. It will say: 1. Do not give to patients...

    Protocol for pediatric hypoglycemia

Hi all, Wondering if any of you have a protocol for pediatric hypoglycemia? We currently do not. Under our Pediatric Considerations is just states "Pediatric medication administration is per physician order only". I have been looking around online and have found several services that have a...

    transporting drunk people

Like every one else has said, it depends on the pt... and what BLS providers are allowed to do. I could go on and on, but it comes down to the condition of the pt. Case-by-case bases.

    coping when it gets personal

No one could/can give better advice then that. Don't think that you are "weird" for having to use a counselor... that's what they are there for. You would be surprised at how many EMS providers have had to use them before... I have only had to talk to a counselor once, but would do it again in a...

    Job!!!!

Well, there are plenty of jobs out there for you. Just keep in mind, you may not get your "dream job" right off the bat. You may have to work IFT, or small town, or non-911 before you get what you truly want. Also be aware that a lot of ER's hire medics. Right now just take what you can get...

    Lopressor or No'pressor

Yes, I know I do not want to convert her, but to slow the rate down. Last thing she needs is someone to risk stroking her out^_^ We only carry Lopressor for uncontrolled A-Fib. Her BP was slowly dropping as her HR was increasing. Went from staying around 160 to staying around 210. My question...

    Lopressor or No'pressor

LOC did not change... for better or worse. Her B/P was going up and down and all over the place... I just put in the drastic changes, and initial and last BP

    Lopressor or No'pressor

As I was going to, but the Doctor said no. Even after I brought her in and he saw her for himself (as we walked by) he still said to not do it in cases like her. I hope I can get back there and talk more about it with him... but he said this is all most likely causes by sepsis and dehydration...

    Lopressor or No'pressor

staff stated that pt had not been getting any fluids lately (how long, who knows how long), and her urine output had been decreased. There was no sweating with the high temp. I figured I would closely monitor pt and do fluid replacement. Her lungs were slightly diminished in the lower lobes...

    Lopressor or No'pressor

No I have not, it was our last call for the day. Hopefully I can follow up a little tomorrow... but it tends to be hard to follow up on these pts.
