    CVT student's nightmare

I have never heard of it myself as well. This guy sounds like a troll or something, trying to make a pass at prehospital medicine.

    CVT student's nightmare

Still no. If you use your equipment on a patient in the park, yes you will need an order from a physician. Only, there is not a physician in the world who would give you this order. No doctor will allow a random cardiology technician to work up a random patient that the doctor does not know...

    Combat Lifesavers

A wonderful thing that has come out of the Iraq-Afghanistan conflicts is the wealth of new knowledge in fluid resuscitation. Small amounts of hypertonic saline (only enough to get a palpable radial pulse) are resulting in increased survival into surgery. Surgeons have also learned that they...

    CVT student's nightmare

I'm not buying it. Is there not a cardiovascular technology forum where this can be discussed? I am really trying not to be rude, but this is not even a remotely likely scenario. A tech will not be getting "medical control orders" for procedures in an emergency, and a tech will not be assisting...

Can cardiovascular technology students get ACLS certified?

No, unless starting IVs is part of your scope of practice as an echocardiographer, you cannot do it even if you go pick up another certification. --csmmedic (formally daedalus)

Can cardiovascular technology students get ACLS certified?

ACLS does not teach how to start an IV or administer IV medication. It does not go over or even briefly review these procedures. It does not teach intubation. The only pre-req is not just BLS for the health care provider. The pre req for ACLS is being a licensed health care professional or being...

Principles of Patient Assessment in EMS by Bob Elling

I do not really differentiate between the filed and regular medicine. I take emergent transfers from hospitals to tertiary hospitals and like to look at the labs and films the give me so I like to learn everything I can. I have both and both have a lot of material you can use in the field with...

    Zero Tolerance of Rudeness/Attacks/Inflammatory Posts

That this forum and some of its staff (read: Chimpie) want this place to be a censored dictatorship where no real information exchange or debate can take place. We have now lost many valuable members, some of whom I have learned a lot from and so have many of you. So look forward to no more...

Principles of Patient Assessment in EMS by Bob Elling

Naw, Merk would be a mistake. If you want to take patient assessment seriously buy: DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination or Bates Guide to the Physical Exam.

    Entering a locked building ?

I don't know about what our "rights" or special legal privileges are regarding entering a locked building when a known patient is inside. All I know is that you have to be able to make decisions on scene and I will attempt to enter a building while waiting for PD as safely as I can even if that...

Your thoughts on Fast Track Paramedic Specialist Program

That is like a State deciding to go ahead and call PAs with a masters degree "physicians" because they possess a lot of the same skills and education as a physician. Why not call it like it is? An EMT-I is an EMT-I....... A paramedic has gone to paramedic school and passed the state/national test.

    A proper 12 lead would've done wonders.

Sounds like a typical situation around Los Angeles. In fact, that narrative sounds kinda like the LA County/City way to write narratives (maybe it is taught to them??? They need to learn SOAP). It does not surprise me at all. This is why the hospitals teach all the new ED nurses to never...
