Medics upset over Long Beach pilot deployment plan

This county really needs to not handcuff departments in these hard financial times. Allow all these assessment engines/trucks to transport and give them a full drug box.

    60s yom full arrest

I know it's hard when someone else is running the call but why the cannula when his pulse ox was above 94?

    Question for those with experience

I love the term they used in the show combat rescue for what I've always learned as the rapid trauma. They call it the blood sweep. Gets my mind in the right frame to keep this quick.

64 yo M fall, not dangerous (per dispatch)

Do you have anywhere in protocols that has this addressed? Trauma or destination? I know we want to go to the most appropriate facility with our patients but everywhere I've worked if they're not specialty like trauma cva stemi they go to the closest.

Nurses Balking About Proposed Calif. Paramedicine Program

I'm confident now that I can successfully determine whether someone just released from the ER needs immediate transport back. That's what we do. Triage people and do physical assessments to determine our treatment. Now as far as long term treatment of chronic issues? I can't speak for everyone...

911 bids in 2015 (LA COUNTY)

Be glad they don't consider employee moral during their process, otherwise you'd be totally out of luck. I've never seen a company with less employee moral, or with employees with more negative things to say about a company.

    Primary assessment order

Just to clarify: your assessment for unconscious is still a b c. If you find there is no pulse the action to correct this is now c a b. For order of primary think of the term GILT right after scene before level of consciousness. GILT = general impression life threats. Treat those first. Then...

San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Bid May End AMR’s 33-Year Ambulance Monopoly

I'm trying to apply as a medic to san bernardino amr when they open up. How is the relationship with fire out there? Are they pretty good with treatment? I.e. pain or other comfort measures. Or are they like other departments and stingy with their morphine.

San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Bid May End AMR’s 33-Year Ambulance Monopoly

LT's make less than AOs, wonder why they would change their staffing model.

    La County protocol question

Not to sound like a ****, but you really need to look at the policies for yourself and not just listen to others. EMT can honor destinations that aren't the MAR. And know that for a pediatric the MAR is the closest EDAP. Policy 808 tells what needs to be transported and how. Hip fractures have...

    Refusals

We have it easy in LA County. If their complaint meets anything in our 808 policy then we have to call in a refusal. For my work we just have then sign our form if they refuse. Side note: we are finally following science. Check out our county's new c-spine protocol...

    A Poll: When You're Off-Duty

Just a standard first aid kit in my car for myself and friends. Commercial one with nothing special in it. And have a rescue tool in my center console for when I need extrication. No sockets whatsoever. If I'm walking or in the mall just as far as asking if they're alright or need ems. Never...

    La County protocol question

Just to clarify, the specific respiratory rate of 29 has to do when trauma is involved. Policy 506. This is the same with BP < 90. Now 808 says base hospital contact I. E. ALS level call when a patient is SOB or tachypnea and also for patients with signs and symptoms of shock.

    Backboarding Obese Patients

If the collar doesn't fit you can always just use rolled up towels and support them that way. Also check out the product information sheet of your backboard to see how much they're able to hold.

    Reapplying to Care Ambulance soon

When I left to go to school they said you can always reapply. Now if you reapply within twelve months, then you get to keep your seniority. Call up Mitch and talk to him directly.

    Heat stroke treated on-scene?

I tried to find a specific scope of practice for trainers, but was unable. Granted I didn't look too hard, but if it's a true emergency, then it's our realm. They seem to be more focused on prevention and treatment of sport injuries. If push came to shove and I ended up in court, I doubt my...

    Lowest BP with patient asymptomatic?

Had a pt during internship that had a by of 60/40. She was walking, talking, and adamant about not going to the hospital. Spent over an hour trying to get her to let us treat and transport.

    Heat stroke treated on-scene?

Our protocol is fluid and active cooling with rapid transport. I have no clue what the scope of practice of a trainer is unless their a doctor. With that I wouldn't let them take control of my patient's care if I was dispatched to a heat stroke call.

    Suspended for possible policy violation...

It's wrong of them to do that. When i worked for a private as an EMT if a nurse said jump, we'd always ask how high. They're the senior people of the company who should know more than us about everything.

I'd guess LA City would go an ambulance operator eoute way before totally going private.
