Training as EMT with tennis elbow

Screw the doctor. Get a lawyer. It's the only way you're ever going to make any money in EMS.

    Looking for some direction...

Ambulance driver experience will give you zero edge in landing a civil service fire job. And it's usually counterproductive to becoming a competent medic. So I would take the RR job and go to medic school. That cert WILL give you an edge, unlike the amb experience. I would go for that...

    Staging in EMS

Once you have a little experience you'll learn that the odds are just as good that any shooter is going to bolt to avoid capture way before you get there. That's why you leave your sirens on until you're stepping out. Give them plenty of warning to run, so they don't feel trapped by your...

Riverside Community College (CA) paramedic program 2011...

That's a valid concern in Kalifornia, where they've been bankrupt for decades due to poor management. But medics don't cost a department any more than any other fireman, so it doesn't really bear out. Where it makes a difference is in the privates, where the glut of basics keeps wages...

    Staging in EMS

Just like an aeromedical flight; two to go, one for no. If we both think, "what the heck, let's go for it," we do. If either of us has any reservations, we stage. Most of the time, it seems that the dispatcher tells units to stage just because they think they're supposed to always say that...

Riverside Community College (CA) paramedic program 2011...

It doesn't. RCC -- while indeed better than many in the area -- is still a laughable joke nationwide. And all the paramilitary BS is a big reason for that. RCC caters not to those who want to be medical professionals, but to the 95 percent who wannabe firemen. All the stupid uniform and PT...

    Questions that EMS ask patients.

Exactly. One major difference between an basic and a medic is that the basic is trying to get through a checklist so he can chart it. The medic is trying to get to a diagnosis so he can treat the patient. The former cannot be flexible. The latter must be flexible. And the only way to learn...

having a hard time getting work as an emt, should i just start the medic process?

In other words, you lack the intelligent information necessary to respond. It is very obvious from your posts that you still haven't bothered to look up the definition of a "high performance system." So much for all your world-class "research and development." If you ever admit that you don't...

having a hard time getting work as an emt, should i just start the medic process?

Wait... are you saying that "high volume" and "high performance" are the same thing? I thought you said you guys were well educated! Back to the google with you. So, with your vast experience in a grand total of one system, you're prepared to say the rest of the world is wrong? That...

having a hard time getting work as an emt, should i just start the medic process?

For that matter, I'm dying to know what his definition of a "high-performance system" is. I'm betting he doesn't have a clue.

having a hard time getting work as an emt, should i just start the medic process?

LOL! Exactly. That argument died around 1976, when California entered a backwards time warp. He is right about one thing. It is definitely easy to pick out the ones with EMT-B experience. They're the ones who think they know everything, constantly interrupt class with BS war stories, argue...

    Any tips/re-do's for medic school???

I'd do exactly what you appear to be doing. That is, I would get a full two years of college support courses before even starting EMT school. Going back and doing them after the fact produces a much less educated medic. Second, I would not do any EMS work until I was out of school. Good luck.

Becoming an ambulance driver in Texas.

You don't. Period. In fact, in most of Texas, you won't become one even after passing the test. Nothing but non-911 taxi driver jobs for most EMTs in Texas. You'll be lucky if you even get one of those. Don't quit your real job.

How long is Paramedic school usually?

Since you're not likely to ever find an EMS job in So Cal, I say the least time you can waste in school, the better. But if you expect that you might ever actually work in EMS (most grads don't), then the 2 year degree program is the only way to go. Anything less is dangerous, especially in...

having a hard time getting work as an emt, should i just start the medic process?

Exactly. You've already discovered that there are no jobs for EMS there. Why on earth would you spend more time and money just to drive the point home?

If he takes these answers to heart, this could be the most significant learning point in the OP's EMS career. Big props to those who told him what he really didn't want to hear. It's true. It's not a lifestyle. It's a job. The sooner you learn that, the more successful your development as a...
