    Help choosing medic schools

I know of University of New Mexico, UMBC, University of Minnesota, University of Utah, and University of Southern Alabama. These were the schools I looked at when deciding to go back to college. I decided on U of New Mexico because of the area and price.

Call 911 for Safe Haven for new borns

While I agree, we were hesitant to send the kids back to a potentially abusive household. There were a few states a while back that had no age limit, however they've since been changed.

Call 911 for Safe Haven for new borns

When I was with the FD in MD we had a mother show up to our station one night with her 3 kids. An 11 year old, a 7 year old, and a 5 year old. She stated she was leaving them with us under the safe haven law. Due to the ages of the children we were unsure how to handle the situation. My Lt...

    Out of the Country

I briefly looked into this and you will have to apply to the HCPC to get your license. It's a fairly lengthy process. I would start as soon as you have completed your course. You will need to send all your transcripts including course details to them. I'm still looking in to the process, I'll...

Have you considered going into teaching full time?

    Help choosing medic schools

That depends entirely on what type of service you're looking for. If you want to know anything about MN, MD, or IA let me know. Those systems are the ones that I know the most about. When you think about where you want to spend the next 5 years, what type of environment suits you best? I'm a...

Hopefully 46Young will jump into this thread, I think he's worked for them before. May be worth sending him a PM about the service.

    Help choosing medic schools

While I agree that U of I is a good program, I feel that there are better options throughout the country. The U of I program is very condensed. Don't get me wrong, I've worked and trained a lot of great medics from that program. However if you can truly move anywhere in the country for medic...

    Do you donate regularly?

I would but I've spent too much time out of the country. I think I'm eligible to start donating again in a few months.

    International Trauma Life Support

I may have my ITLS book from class. When I went through medic at AACC it was part of our program. You may also be able to get the book at the AACC bookstore. ETA: My fault, didn't realize you wanted online stuff. I'll check when I get home and see if I have any power points

    Test/Interview/Hiring process for AMR? ? ?

Never wear scrubs or EMS pants. If I'm ever interviewing, it's a suit or nothing.

What are your plans after EMT?

I would love to have a hobby farm at some point. Raise some sheep or maybe some llamas. As long as I end up with a nice plot of land and a barn I can convert into a hobby shop I'll be happy.

You know you are an EMT/Paramedic when...

My ex had a massive forehead vain that would pop out when she was yelling at me. Being a smartass, I once reached out to palpate it and got smacked. In my defense it was a crazy looking vain. Could have fit a 16ga in it easily.

Falck - or the 900-pound gorilla no one is aware of

I just talked to a friend from medic school who works there and he said they only do IFT. If I remember right BestCare out on the shore will do back up 911 for Baltimore County. The other privates in Maryland (ProCare, Butler, AAA, Transcare) are strictly IFT with no back up. LifeStar has...

Falck - or the 900-pound gorilla no one is aware of

Eastern shore maybe? I've heard of one private out there back up 911, but not being the primary. I have a few friends working at life star an I've heard numerous things both good and bad. They are all IFT from what they've said. I've never heard of them run 911.

Nitro spray on skin before IV

That's my thought as well. I asked around at work and the only medic who had heard of it was a guy that's been a medic for 25 years.

Accuracy/reliability - Manual BP vs. Automated.

I try to grab a manual on scene. If my monitor shows a drastic change en route or my patient presentation changes I reassess and try to grab another manual. On occasion I've got to much to worry about. We only send one truck to a call so sometimes I have to settle for an automated while I do all...
