Thanks Jon for reminding me how I learned that one. The firefighter comes out of the bar, goes around the lamp pole and goes back in. FYI I learned it from a firefighter that way;)

    Vomit Splashing Everywhere!

I'll agree the little emisis basins are a joke. I grab the big basins or another handy tip is to use a large garbage bag that you can cut a hole in to place it around the patient and when they puke or start to heave you just pull the top open and it ceatches most of it.

    School AED

Our school got a grant of some sort for an AED. I believe there are still grants out there for them some place. I know that there was training done for the teachers or school staff done by the school nurse who is a CPR instructor.

    "Secret" Signals

It depends on who I'm working with, some we are in sync with one another enough we don't always have to speak. Otherwise wise nod of the head out of the room or we just say what we need.

    Unspoken

anyone in a high intensity work enviroment is going to get to know their counterparts , quicker if that spirit of teamwork is there imho... ~S~ I'll agree with Stevo on this. I know on our squad we try to keep it running with the same people however our director thinks that he needs to mix...

    Bi-Weekly Newsletter

I wouldn't object to a newsletter but I do think that for starting off it would be better to do it monthly or even if we really wanted to we could try bimonthly to get things figured out with what to include and so forth.

    Rescue Backpacks

Thanks for the help and pics fm_emt. I had a descussion with an old EMT pal of mine who has since moved on to green pastures, But he told me that he would prefer to have a big old jump bag. cuz you can raise and lower it. Anyways I still think it would be nice to have a small pack with the...

    M2m

I know I carry a mask on my keychain. I also have a micro shield in my purse and a pocket mask in my car. I would agree that if the person was some one I knew I probly would do mouth to mask or mouth if neccessary. But if it wasn't anyone I knew I would use a mask but I would have to say it...

    Eeeeek! Bees!

I've always been taught that scrapping the stinger out is better then using a tweezer. And this is the lodgic behind it that I was taught. When you use a tweezers and other objects to get a hold of the stinger there is the possibility that the stinger still has the venom sac still attached to...

    Lightbars in personal vehicles?

I have recently put wigwags in my car. As ambulance personal here we can only have white. I will say there were a good handful that put them in their vehicle. We had to get permits from the director and had to live a mile away from the station which now isn't hard to do. Our Fire Department...

    Sexiest Jump Kit

I actually got a soft sided fishig tackle box that had 4 boxs inside of it that were adjustable in size so I fillid 2 of the boxs with the bandaids and stuff to keep dry and left the other 2 out. So I had room for B/P kit and a bigger solid box. It was cheap and keeps everything zipped up...

    Diabetic and EMS

I can't say we have anyone on our squad that deals with being a diabetic let alone any other medical issues, except for maybe me. I am not diabetic but I don't sweat. So during the summer when it gets really hot and muggy out I can over heat quickly. But like Matt mentioned it becomes part...
