I failed again for the 3rd time NREMT-P, please help!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnO9Jyz82Ps So you have problems with non-linear thought processes and any phrase that isn't glaringly spot-on pertinent to your comments....I'll remember to speak slower and use more monosyllabic words next time I try to explain something to you. Likewise...

What are YOU concerned with when doing a 12 lead??

It's been so long ago (about eleven years) that I don't recall precisely although I do remember that it was a re-entrant tachycardia but beyond that it's really fuzzy. I do know that what triggered the episode though was an absolutely unhealthily large dose of caffeine. The patient was one of...

    Wanting to be a emt/firefighter

Generally decent amount of physical fitness and the ability to lift and carry a lot of weight. BTW, one of my former partners was smaller than you and had come back from battling ovarian cancer. If Irene could handle EMS, I'm sure you can. Fire....it'll depend on the department and your...

Out of Hospital ECLS (Extracorporeal Life Support)

Even with a survivable diaphragmatic hernia, you're not normally going to get the "Night of the Living Dead" style pile of organs falling out of the chest. Hell, we don't even really see that at autopsy following plane crashes. Although....there was that one where you could feel the heart...

suicide with a gun, what woudl you do

Yeah, but until the cops are there and secure it you don't know for sure if they are victims or not. Better safe than sorry. They are already traumatized by the guy painting the walls with his brains and calvarium....a couple more minutes isn't going to make a big difference.

suicide with a gun, what woudl you do

Right, I was just pointing out that the call gets to be made by the coroner or ME. I've ruined many a cop's day by pointing out that what they thought was a homicide was suicide, accident or natural causes.

suicide with a gun, what woudl you do

I would have sat back until the cops got there. If it's a GSW to the head, the patient is probably better off dead anyhow so a "slow code" in the name of scene safety is welcomed in my book. Actually, it they die, it's the responsibility of the coroner or medical examiner. The cops don't get...

I failed again for the 3rd time NREMT-P, please help!!

The most dangerous phrase to ever come out of the mouth of an EMT-B (with fewer than 5-10 years of experience in a busy 911 service) or a student at any level is any phrase starting with "Based upon my experience...." and followed closely by "My instructor told me..." Ever heard of a...

Like I said...the problem isn't with the stick....it's with the ability to accurately diagnose when you have a tamponade. The signs we are all taught to look for tend to have a rather piss poor specificity and sensitivity. The services I got to handle CQI for as far as chart review goes had a...

One was fully arrested and one was about to. Both had massive hemodynamic improvement as soon as the parasite was removed. It's not a hard procedure to do- even blind- but it's just making the decision that's the issue. Which program out there flies with a doc all the time?

To Vent or Not To Vent

If you'd like, all animosity between the two of us aside, I can try to put you in touch with one of the ventilator sales reps I've met through speaking at conferences and such. They could likely hook you up with their counterpart in your area. It's a great way to learn (including CEUs most...

Out of Hospital ECLS (Extracorporeal Life Support)

I have heard of a few isolated cases here in the states and heard of it being on the "table" so to speak with the German Notarzte (emergency physicians) of the DRK, etc. Our medical director theoretically approved it (as a supervisor level, medical control authorization required skill), but it...

Out of Hospital ECLS (Extracorporeal Life Support)

I think you're confusing the chest and abdomen. Unless the patient is well beyond salvage, nothing should be "spilling out of the chest". Theoretically, it may be the only way to get a patient with massive vascular trauma to the thorax or abdomen to the OR alive. Correctly done, a...
