The official posting from work thread

Maybe it's because I'm fairly new, or because I really enjoy my job no matter how simple it is (IFT, falls, diabetic emergencies, etc.), but I love actually doing stuff. I like helping people, it's what I signed up for. If I can take a little nap, cool. But not all day. Everyone else seems...

The official posting from work thread

I've been here for like 2 hours now. I prefer running, makes the day go by quicker. Breaks are nice, but anything that gets too long bores me.

Your patient asks you to pray with them

I actually agree with this. Hard. I hate religion, but EMS is not about your wants or needs. It's about the pt.

Your patient asks you to pray with them

We seem to be cut from the same cloth sir! However, I do bow my head for a few reasons. A.) If it helps them and I'm not busy, why not? My beliefs basically revolve around Thelema and things of that nature, aka "do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law". I want to provide the...

Interesting interview question popped up today... Remove one piece of equipment

:lol::lol::lol: Also, if I worked for a service where I had trauma and all that, I may change my answer. Hopefully I'll let ya"ll know in a year or two.

Interesting interview question popped up today... Remove one piece of equipment

10-20, probably on the lower end of that spectrum. The way I see it though (working mostly IFT for a private) the hospitals or nursing homes have a good suction unit. My rig has a good unit. The V-Vac will suffice in the short time between those two places. Anytime I have a pt. that...

Your patient asks you to pray with them

This too. I may not believe in your god(s), but in a pt./provider setting I will never disrespect your beliefs, or try to have a big theological argument. I am there to help, not preach the evils of religion. You do what you must to feel better, I'll try my best to make that happen...

Your patient asks you to pray with them

I like this answer, as my religious beliefs conflict with a most other religious views. As a follower of the left hand path, i cant bring myself to pray to God,Jehovah,Yahweh,Krishna,Allah, etc. It goes against my beliefs, and I too believe it would be more disrespectful to pretend to care...

Interesting interview question popped up today... Remove one piece of equipment

Discard: Stretcher, workdays just got a whole lot easier! All kidding aside, Powered suction unit. Weighs a bit, and not as useful as onboard or the manual portable. Keep: Dash mounted computer with NOMAD.

Tribute: A Day in the Life of Paramedics, EMT's & Firefighters

Thats what I did. I bought all long sleeve shirts and everything. After I started working I found we had no tattoo policy and it was ok, so now I can roll up the sleeves in the summer.

Tribute: A Day in the Life of Paramedics, EMT's & Firefighters

I have never had a complaint about any of my tattoos. But it seems here in Chicago, every stage of fire/EMS/medical fields has heavily tattooed people. We're just used to it. :shrugs:

How large is your service area

We do all of the Chicagoland area, and just about all of Illinois. We do out of state transfers too. I don't think we have a "service area" lol.

Tribute: A Day in the Life of Paramedics, EMT's & Firefighters

I used to look like a mountain man when I first started in EMS, as that was just how I looked, and my company had no policy. I shaved to a short goatee and got a buzzcut and I'm really likin it though, so that'll probably stay. It does look a bit more professional. I have visible tattoos...
