    Phone app/field guide

Check out Rapid STEMI (Great for students just learning 12 leads.), Burn Calc (Calculates your Parkland burn formula.) and Stroke Track too. Stroke Track takes a minute to input data but is interesting because it calculates percentage of a favorable outcome with vs. without TPA based on pt's data.

    Stories you told rookies

Every once in awhile we get a really, to be polite, gullible student. I wait until we're out at the hospital and I'll start frantically going through one of our cabinets. I'll say "Oh no. Oh no!" The student asks "What's wrong?!" I tell them "We don't have any fallopian tubes! If we get out...

Funny Things We Say To Make Our Patients Feel Better

"Don't worry, this is my lucky needle. I never miss with this needle." "How young are you?" As you're fastening the seat belts on the cot. "Hold your arms up. Just like you're at 7-11." "Just like a ride at Six Flags. Except we don't kill anyone." Caller: Wow! You got here fast! Us: Thirty...

    Fort Worth Paramedic Gigs

I know you said "Ft. Worth" but if you're willing to drive a little bit check out ETMC-EMS in Tyler. They cover all over the eastern part of the Dallas area. Like Wylie, Forney, Seagoville, Red Oak, Waxahachie etc. Waxahachie wouldn't be a bad drive depending on where in Ft. Worth you were...

Just looking for some thoughts on this call the other day.

Echo echo echo. I was just thinking the same thing about the hernia but you beat me to it! I agree with everyone else. Most likely a PE. Depending on the location of the clot, could be why he was so tachy and hypotensive with decreased SpO2. The clot probably dislodged and put him in full blown...

Relocating to TX, Starting wage for medic really 10.31 ?

There's an app for that! Lol Seriously though, there really is. Medical Spanish app and it's probably the best 99 cents I've ever spent.

Relocating to TX, Starting wage for medic really 10.31 ?

No, apply now. You aren't going to hurt your chances. They'll understand that you're an out of state applicant. Be sure to send a resume with a cover letter. What you don't want to happen is to apply right before you get here and then the app hasn't made it to the right person in HR yet.

Relocating to TX, Starting wage for medic really 10.31 ?

You need to put a * next to Montgomery County and Austin Travis County. Both pay very well. Marble Falls is tough to get on with. Smaller service and very clickish from what I'm told. Also, ETMC and Champion pay within 5 cents an hour of each other. They might as well be equal. And as...

Why left arm pain with a MI?

Awesome explanation! If I can just add left arm pain of cardiac origin usually stops at the wrist. Left arm pain of other etiology typically goes all the way into the finger tips or hands. I don't have any scientific data to back this up. Just been my experience.

    Just One Piece of Advice

Calm down and breath. What's the worst thing that can happen? They can code. And do we know how to work a code? Only in our sleep. We're paramedics! Obviously our goal is to not let the pt get to that point, but if they do, we can manage it. Just a thought but, I thought this was the...

    STEMI...How Can we Improve??

I'm getting in on this thread a day late, but this is in response to Craig's initial post... I agree that we can improve as pre-hospital providers in the management of STEMI patients. We do need to have drills. Not just STEMI, but Code Stroke and traumas. I guess I'm saying we can improve...

Training to be an EMT in Honolulu

Typically EMT classes are easy to get into. It's not like you're applying to nursing school. If you have the tuition and prereq's I'd say you're in. Idk about Hawaii though? I'm just saying generally speaking. P.S. You have my sympathy living in Hawaii. ;)

Does ANYone From TEXAS know anything about.....

I forgot to tell you, as far as scope of practice goes, it will vary from service to service. Just depends on what their medical director allows. The paramedic scope of practice isn't defined by the state like other parts of the country. It's basically whatever the medical director allows his...
