Why teamwork, training and safety are paramount.

It seems as thoought this happens from time to time. Something bad happens, and we as a profession keep throwing people into the problem instead of taking the time to really think through our actions. we are all taught to make snap decisions and we still need to learn to slow down sometimes and...

    Uniforms.

My paramedic class didn't wear uniforms, and even though it was a short 5 years ago I don't remember seeing anyone's Whale tail sticking out of the back of their pants. The EMTLife Reading List

House of God is a must read...I read it in between didatic and clinical time during medic school. Once you read it the vague referances made in Scrubs will make more sence. I also liked Kelly Grayson's book, it is a easy read and enjoyable to know that everyone goes through the same problems.

What's the best way to do a BP on a snowsuited patient in extreme cold?

I agree that a BP is part of a baseline set of vitals (here it goes) BUT....in my experence the majority of things that I see on a ski run a BP is not needed. If I do need to know about their circulation status I can check a radial pulse, check their LOC, look in their eyes, and look at their...

What's the best way to do a BP on a snowsuited patient in extreme cold?

My 10 years of ski patroling says to take a radial pulse and get them to "base". If they don't have a radial pulse get them to base faster and call a helicopter. Nothing I can do on the hill but transport, and nothing I can do ALS in "base" as I am only a BLS ski patroller. So a good dose of ski...

    Self protection question

I haven't really thought of that before. You make a great point. Just this last week I had an agressive drunk that we needed to restrain. He wazs fine until we got him on the gurney and lifted then something snapped...I don't know what and he started fighting us. We were out on the middle of BFE...
