    where are the jobs?

Wow, nasty. I do not think that little quote says what you think it says. I stand by what I said.

    SAR First Aid Kit

I'm always throwing things in or out of my SAR pack med kit. I don't carry a c-collar, I always figure I can make one if I need it. I'm always using up my coban...I know, duct tape works fine, but my patients are always my fellow team members, and they expect a certain level of care. I...

    where are the jobs?

I don't shake sticks at them, as there are too many, and I don't want any to feel left out. Were there fewer around, I would indulge.

    where are the jobs?

Depends on what you want to do, where you want to live. Busy city, or far out rural. Two main ambulance services out here, AMR and Metro-West (and their various spawn.) Basic? 10 to 15 bucks an hour, not doing much of any fun stuff (industrial health, wheelchair vans, gofer on a rig.)...

I would have liked to stop...

You had your kids in the car. Your job is to take care of your kids. And call 911 if nobody else was going to...but you already said the lady was on the phone. Good call not making the scene messy with extras. If you had witnessed the accident, it would have been different in my State (but...

    Being an EMT is scary!

I hear acid showers are great for reducing those fine lines and wrinkles! As I was gloving up a day or two ago (to wrap up a nasty thumb lac. on another EMT) I was considering what might be on my gloves...and in his wound, now. I think I'm going to start carrying my gloves in a ziploc or...

    EMS Education in Washington State

Dang, that's messy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. The few times I've crossed over into your neck of the wood s for SAR missions I've always been impressed with the quality and temperment of your BLS and ALS crews.

EMS knowledge "burnout" after getting first job?

I thought you were supposed to work in a video store to prepare for being a filmmaker. Though my EMT-B instructor did one of the first ever infomercials for the SAM splint. Odd post. You'd have more time to study filmmaking at a video store.

    Feeling unprepared. Questions.

welcome to the club You know more than you think you do. Having said that, I feel totally unqualified to do anything, and hate that "oh *&%@" moment when I figure out I'm the one everyone is looking to to fix whatever is going south at the time. Classes, training, practice. I like running...

    My boots are icky

Oh. Crud. Well, I'll give the pair a good soaping/scrubbing, lather/rinse/repeat.

    My boots are icky

Quick answer: A spoiled one^_^ Longer answer: You see, my husband was in the Navy, and had nothing better to do when he was in than sit on a ship and learn to polish boots up pretty. I on the other hand was in the Marine Corps, and I was actually busy doing important stuff like...well, it...

    My boots are icky

I know there are some folks with specialized knowledge on this forum, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea on what I should do about my boots. They got icky tonight. I was doing a recovery from an airplane accident, and ended up standing in water just slightly higher than my boot tops that...

    Faces behind the post

I like picture 7 the best. You have a beautiful smile, and your dog has a beautiful, um, tail.

Besides the ambulance/fd, where else can you work as an EMT?

If you are not located in Hollywood but someplace where they do a lot of location filming, you could hook on with a production company. I recently had to pass on a film gig (EMT-B, $20 an hour) . AMR gets most of the contracts for that sort of thing around here, but the indy crews still make...
