    Best 12 hour shifts

My work does 5-5, 5:30 -5:30, and 7-7. I always like the 5-5's because you start early and still (should) get home when it's light out and just in time for family dinner.

    emt, pct?

I don't have any direct experience in that I am only an EMT, not a PCT. In my basic class, there were 4 girls who were PCT's and hated their job so they decided to go to EMT school. It probably just depends on what your personal preference is- being in a hospital/nursing home/building all day...

    EMT-I '85 dilemma - moving & medic school

No, Greenville county pays you Paramedic rate as an EMT-I if you are an EMT-I in Paramedic school.

    Gun At Nursing Home

We had a patient take a gun to a dialysis clinic simply to clean it while he was sitting on dialysis. That didn't go over too well.....

    EMT-I '85 dilemma - moving & medic school

South Carolina recognizes I85's... gotta be Nationally Registered. If you aren't NREMT, you can get provisional certification for one year. Greenville County (upstate SC) runs a county wide EMS system. There are also quite a few IFT companies in the upstate that hire EMT-I's. Greenville...

    Fire Dept. Paramedic Rescue Units

Well mine isn't a paramedic based unit and I am not sure what LA county uses. My FD runs EMT-I based units that just get to the scene and initiate patient care until county based ambulances can get there. We use our light rescue unit. Pretty much an f150 front and a small box on the back with...

Dumbest thing heard on the radio

BLS crew was bringing in a pt to the ER. Their radio report sounded something like this: "Medic 2 enroute with 56 y/o female, afraid to leave her house. History of hypochondria." I think the whole ER cracked up laughing at that report. Definitely made my day!

Dumbest thing heard on the radio

"Medic 10, do you need additional responding units for patient transport?" "Negative, county. No room in the inn."

    So I have this essay...

There's a lot of research out there on injuries caused from working in EMS, such as back injuries and how they can be prevented. You could do something like that for workmen's comp issues. Or medicare/medicaid reimbursement.

    Maryland POV Light Law

The flashers on your car will do more good than an amber light bar. People see flashy obnoxious lights, they want to see what's going on, and in the end cause an accident. The ONLY time I'm a proponent of lights on your POV is if you are a medic who is licensed to respond to calls as an IRP...

I am intrested in career in EMT.

I'm well on my way to quitting- once I find a job. Don't feel like sitting in a truck in 100+ degree heat. And I like my cell phone....

Yeah I wish that too! My company requires black, hence why I switched to the plain 5.11 tactical pants.

    Difficulty breathing scenario

Oh okay. Another question- is there any specific treatment a Paramedic can initiate that would help a pt suffering from difficulty breathing from epiglottitis?
