My work does 5-5, 5:30 -5:30, and 7-7. I always like the 5-5's because you start early and still (should) get home when it's light out and just in time for family dinner.
I don't have any direct experience in that I am only an EMT, not a PCT. In my basic class, there were 4 girls who were PCT's and hated their job so they decided to go to EMT school. It probably just depends on what your personal preference is- being in a hospital/nursing home/building all day...
South Carolina recognizes I85's... gotta be Nationally Registered. If you aren't NREMT, you can get provisional certification for one year.
Greenville County (upstate SC) runs a county wide EMS system. There are also quite a few IFT companies in the upstate that hire EMT-I's. Greenville...
Well mine isn't a paramedic based unit and I am not sure what LA county uses. My FD runs EMT-I based units that just get to the scene and initiate patient care until county based ambulances can get there. We use our light rescue unit. Pretty much an f150 front and a small box on the back with...
BLS crew was bringing in a pt to the ER. Their radio report sounded something like this:
"Medic 2 enroute with 56 y/o female, afraid to leave her house. History of hypochondria."
I think the whole ER cracked up laughing at that report. Definitely made my day!
There's a lot of research out there on injuries caused from working in EMS, such as back injuries and how they can be prevented. You could do something like that for workmen's comp issues.
Or medicare/medicaid reimbursement.
The flashers on your car will do more good than an amber light bar. People see flashy obnoxious lights, they want to see what's going on, and in the end cause an accident.
The ONLY time I'm a proponent of lights on your POV is if you are a medic who is licensed to respond to calls as an IRP...
Oh okay.
Another question- is there any specific treatment a Paramedic can initiate that would help a pt suffering from difficulty breathing from epiglottitis?
Everytime I've seen a patient get 3 doses of NTG, it normally drops their blood pressure below 90 systolic. In our protocols, if BP <90 systolic, NTG is contraindicated. So would it really even be necessary to give over 3 doses?
Thanks! I actually do not plan on going into nursing at all. I tried that and didn't like the first semester of it. I know that isn't long, but I knew it wasn't for me. If I go farther after paramedic, I'll just go to get my CCParamedic. I'd like to start an ambulance company which would...
Sorry for giving the answer away :)
To be fair to the transport decision, the lead medic on the call is known to not be a very good medic. He is scared to death of peds and literally said nothing on the call. I would have been nervous taking the pt by ground because of the situation. We were...
Exactly what I was thinking. If the patient looks in distress, you need to do what you can to make sure the patient gets help. Do you know why the security guard was refusing EMS when the patient was sitting on the floor? It would kind of be a different situation if you arrived and the patient...
