Leadership Book suggestions.

So I have recently been reading "You're IT". Book is about crisis management and leadership. 4 writers all from the NPLI ( national preparedness leadership initiative). Book goes thru some of the worst crisis's in US history 9/11, Katrina, Boston marathon bombing, and etc. Very practical read. 279 pages, goes thru interviews and even some shadowing of some intense situations. Very good read especially in our field being familiar with the incident command systems processes, and crisis leadership.

Looking for your suggestions on Leadership reading as this book is coming to and end soon for me.

There’s tons if you just do some searching on The Googs. I tend to shy away from one’s as you’ve mentioned (no offense), but I’m sure it’s a good read.

Not completely leadership driven, but more of a “mind over matter” book, David Goggins’ “Can’t Hurt Me” was a pretty quick read.

Most leadership books tagged to his, and/ or in general I find to be the alpha-driven type A dog-eat-dog sorts. Not typically my personal bag.

I’d caution that, typically, the best servants make the strongest leaders.

Def interested in other’s suggestions though. I do love a good read. Paperback, not audio. Nothing like that book smell.

"In Search of Excellence" is probably the best leadership book I've read in 40 years. I see it's still available on Amazon. Servant leadership is one of the themes.

Extreme Ownership from Jocko willink and Outrageous From T Scott Gross are two of my faves.

Leadership and management books really come in all shapes and sizes.

Example: We Were Soldiers (an example of operational leadership) and The Guns of August (an example of strategic leadership), both are military in subject but have widely different scopes.

I’m a fan of using leadership stories like those.

Some others:
“Straight from the Gut” by Jack Welch is an ironic one to read now, was just thinking about it recently.

SLA Marshall’s “Men Against Fire: The Problem of Battle Command” has many useful lessons on motivation under duress.

“The Effective Executive” by Peter Drucker is also supposed to be excellent.
