The flip side to this is the absolutely abysmal "code 3" driving that is ever so prevalent with most Californian fire departments. Just ask any of your fellow SoCal cohorts on here.

If I was ever under the impression that the squaddie(s) on a particular call were being pushy, then by all means they led the way, and/ or met us at the hospital. Nuts to that ish.

They epitomize the "California roll", and in fact almost always expect(ed) others to yield to them. Glad everyone seems to be okay though.

I've witnessed reckless driving by LAFD many times both on and off duty. They nearly took my wife and I out a year ago in an intersection where we had the green and I was already in and here came an 800 (bls) unit screaming through missing me by inches. Not the first time and won't be the last.

Richy is buried at Holy Cross
It's Ri"t"chie with a "T", and Valen"s" with an "S". If by Holy Cross you mean Mission Cemetery then yes.

Anyhow, back on topic. It's a death machine, OP. You seem like a smart guy, so just remember this when your partner is "rushing" you to get to and from a call:

No that one was not today’s. The time stamp on the security footage is 2015. I believe that ambulance was stolen and went head on with the truck on purpose. I believe she died on impact.

No, look at the date on the security camera. It happened 2 years ago. It was a suicidal psych who hijacked the unit at knifepoint from the crew, and the left them on the mountain.

They were unharmed, she (clearly) died on impact; my point remains.

Can any LA County members provide the reasoning why fire departments and private ambulance contractors do code 3 transports to the hospital on almost every ALS run? It just blows my mind that this still goes on. As soon as you cross the county line in any directions that mentality changes immediately.

In the 5 years I was there, there was only one FFPM who stood his ground to his partners about not going code to the ED unless it truly is critical.

He was an old skool throwback paramedic, and a damn good one. He gave up his retirement assessment gig to go back to a busier station because he hated sitting around not running medicals that much.

There is no real reasoning. In fact, IIRC they're not supposed to. They want to get back in service that much quicker; sometimes to get back to their stations, sometimes to appease their higher ups. That is all.
