I wasn't in on it but I know some medics that were. Most of them described it as a bit of a pain as they not only had to work a stemi in an urban environment with a short transport time but also get a very sick patient enrolled in the study and if they consent start them on the placebo/cocktail.

Like its been said, the results aren't as great as the stories say, but props to those involved and the PI's for focusing on a prehospital intervention.
 
GIK has been around for ages. Huge studies have been done in the past with no benefit, and as far as I can see from this paper, there is still no real benefit.

Having now looked at the data and their stats, looks pretty clear that there's no significant difference between GIK and placebo, good or bad, except regarding "the composite of prehospital or in-hospital cardiac arrest or acute mortality and the composite of prehospital or in-hospital cardiac arrest, mortality, or hospitalization for HF within 1 year."

Smash, I think you're right on this.
 
Agreed. They made it sound a lot more promising and revolutionary than it seems to actually be.

Medical miracles tend to disappoint though, don't they?

Yeah, I've heard about this thing being tried before with no real discernible results. And what about the adverse effects? I looked up a little more info on it and this site had some interesting things to say about it:
