Help please - Interview Question....

Ok i had an interview with a company out here in San Diego, C.A. on wednesday. The guy who does the hiring told me that he had a few more interview this week to scheduale and he would either be calling people on Friday which is today or the first week in August, well i didn't get a phone call today so would it be a bad idea to call them right now or would it be exceptable?
 
i would not call. i would wait until after the first week of august to call. Its always a bad idea to "annoy" the people who may hire you. Good luck!
 
ooppss i did call and he told me well(my name) i told you we weren't going to make any decisions untill the first week of August and i said ok sounds good. The guy is going on vacation next week so im hoping he will forget that i even called. Man now i feel really dumb like i just screwed that up. Ahhhhh.

He seemed annoyed that i even asked. I bet he grabbed my application and said no on this guy. He didnt listen to what i said.

That's not always the case. I have hired people who pestered me to death, and I have been hired by people whom I have pestered. This is a tight job market and having the hiring boss know your name is not ALWAYS a bad thing.

Keep your spirits up. Worrying wont help.
 
Don't worry about calling, it shows that you care. My only suggestion would be to write a quick thank you note and send it via the mail (regular mail, not USPS mail).

I guess thats true. He just seemed annoyed that i called when he said that back to me. I was just trying to show that im very interested thats all, wasn't trying to annoy him.

Ya i will do that and send it out tomorrow even though he wont get it till he gets back from vacation, but its worth it though anyways. What should i say in the thank you letter?
 
I'm sure there are many google results. I can just tell you that I interviewed a few people this week and was impressed by the thank you note, as were others.
 
In my thank you notes i just pretty much said something like this is just a quick note to thank you for granting me an interview, i hope that my answers will qualify me for the position and thank you very much for your time. just make it short and to the point, without further trying to sell yourself

That sounds awesome.

Thanks guys i just had a hunch that i shouldn't of called back so soon, but my intentions were to show the hiring guy im very interested and i want this position very badly. I will write him a thank you note and get it in the mail tomorrow or for sure Monday. I just hope i didn't screw my self thats all.
 
I actually did that for a volunteer agency here. I went in, asked for the supervisor, and he told me they weren't hiring until August. I told him that I wanted to start NOW! He emailed me a week later and told me to come in and do paper work.

It's better to bug the hell out of the people than to not do anything at all. At least that's how I've been hired by the jobs I've had. By bugging people and letting them know that I actually DO want to work.

Yeah, you want to show them you can listen and follow (implied) directions (aka wait until the day we're supposed to call you). It's hard to figureo out the fine line of bugging a bit to show interest and actually annoying. The quick note will probably help. Persistence pays off, just do it with tact.
 
I've always wondered how much the "call-backs" actually help your chances. I have no hard data either way, I'm just curious. All of the interviews I've had recently were places where I'd just left a resume, not contacted afterward.

I think it's really about playing the odds. The chance that you're applying somewhere at the exact time they really need people, especially with the surplus of labor right now, is pretty slim. So your best bet is to sling resumes everywhere, and reapply every couple months. Most managers, when they do need someone, are not going to call the guy who applied 3 months ago (if anything, they figure you have a job by now). They're probably going to pull the newest 10 apps off the top of the stack.

I'm not saying you shouldn't follow-up on the jobs you really want, just that (in my opinion) that your best strategy is to blast your resume shotgun-style, everywhere you can.
 
Ya well i have applied everywhere i mean every ambulance company that is out here in San Diego. I applied at Americare awhile ago and i keep calling them every other week the lady there says she keeps marking on my app that im checking in on it and when they finally make a decision to hire she will give me a call. I had an interview with Pacific Ambulance back on May 27th and the guy who does the hiring said if i haven't received an e mail back yet your still in the hiring process, we are currently fully staffed but when some positions open up we should be giving you a call. Thats what the guy told me about 3 week ago, i sent him an e mail to check up on that yesterday so im hoping i will get a response from him on Monday or Tuesday and if not ill try calling again. SDMSE i applied back in Feb. never got a call the HR lady told me to re-apply so i did a week ago but she isnt anticipating any more hiring for a few months, so i figured i would go in person there every week to show my face with my name, hopefully that will help me out a little.

I know of some places in LA that are hiring but I doubt you want to commute that much. Just something to think about depending on how bad you want to work.
