This isn't directly related to EMS, but is something that happened in my HAZMAT Ops class tonight. The instructor was talking about some of the long-term effects that some hazardous materials can have on a person. Then he said how, just by joining the fire department, with all that that entails, we've already probably cut at least ten years off of what our life expectancy might otherwise have been.

Then one of the students spoke up and said..."Yeah, but that's just off the end, right?"

Yeah...well...DUH
