Hey I was curious if it would be possible to work for a private company as an EMT-B and also volunteering 20 hours a month at a firestation as an EMT-B at the same time. Or are you only allowed to be affiliated with one sector at a time in WA state?

Not sure if there are specific rules in your state but I have never heard of such a thing. I worked for a private service, while also volunteering at a local rescue squad.

Much of it will depend on your company policy on the matter as well as any local restrictions. Many places dislike you working in EMS anywhere else because of a potential conflict of interest, but fire and private based ems are quite different so you may be able to get away with it.

You can be affiliated with more than one agency in WA...even if they are both paid, both vollie, or any combination. But you will have to pick a primary agency to be affiliated with when you submit you paperwork to the state.

This isn't WA but we have a guy that works for 4 different services. Try remembering four full sets of protocols and keeping them all straight.

I work part time for both a public and a private. Definitely favor the public though.
