.....once I pass the certification if I am visibly tattooed on the job? I can hide them well enough to get through an interview and whatnot, and they aren't on my face or hands and aren't offensive. There are just a lot of 'em. Is this a legit concern of mine or am i overthinking it? Thanks

All depends on your employer. Most employers (it seems like) have a no visible tattoos policy. So you would either have to wear a long sleeve work shirt or buy some tattoo cover-ups.

If it is a big deal or not will depend on the service hiring you. Some places are very strict about a "no show" policy and others are OK with it so long as it is not offensive. You will just have to see what each employers policy is about it. Good luck!

It really depends what the tattoos are.

All the above comments are correct. I worked for a private company in San Francisco,Ca and the "official" policy was..."no visible tattoos of any kind"..but the station managers basically said...we don't care...but don't go to HQ with them visible or get caught by brass....my current company has no policy on tattoos at all...and thats 911 servicing a mostly senior population. It really just depends. Same for facial hair.

Not to sound snooty, but use "Search" on this. We had some very good discussion earlier this year about this, not to mention 2011, 2010...

Cover Up Sleeves

I used to work ER and they made me cover up my ink. I now work the night shift at a children's hospital and even though it's the night shift I cover up my ink with Tat2X sleeves.

My employer is not strict but I have chosen to cover up for the kids I work with. I have considered EMT but it sounds like the policy varies there two. The Ink Armor sleeves I wear work great and fit snug. Half the time people don't even notice I have them on.

I will never have my tattoo removed as it is a tribute to a family member.
