I'm an EMT and I need to re-certify. I want to read it over before the class. Thanks.

Thanks.

EDIT: The website gives the 2005 guidelines. Are these the most recent?

American Heart Association website

American Heart Association Guidelines

Do you think anyone else would have more current ones published without their knowledge?

Welcome to EMS...questions answered with questions are best for learning.

Yes it is - they are currently finalizing their studies and research to publish an update this year. So 2005 is the most current until the 2010 guidelines are published. These will most likely include the compression only guidelines.

"Hands only" CPR was introduced in an update leaflet to add to the BLS and heartsaver CPR classes. Using compressions only is considered acceptable by the AHA on a witnessed adult collapse that is not suspected to be because of a respiratory problem. I don't understand why the AHA teaches non health care personnel to NOT check for a pulse before CPR because they don't think a non healthcare worker could figure it out... but they expect them to be able to know the difference between a cardiac arrest and a respiratory arrest...

Great point, but let's try to stay on topic.

If you'd like to discuss your point further please create another thread.

Thanks.

The 2005 are the most recent ones until this October. They are revised every 5 years.
