Worked for a company that went out of business. Having a backround check. Doesn't it matter if I got fired, lay off or resign? Will they be able to find out?

Why did you get fired?

Didn't get fired. I just was curious. How does the process works? Like I could say anything or even if worth mentioning? I wasn't there long.

You don't have to worry about a background check, I'd be more worried when they call the company for a reference.

If the company no longer exists then there is nothing to worry about, there is no one to call. If it does exist, I'd have a friend call acting as a fictional employer to see what they have to say about you.

Good luck!

Or you could try honesty....

I've had the same "dilemma". I got fired from a company that no longer exists. At the time of applying and interviews the company was still in business but showing signs of going under. Personally I wouldn't worry. If a application asks why you left a company or place of employment simple put "I was laid off due to <place of employment here> going out of business". If you were fired or resigned just put why you were fired or resigned.

You can also explain to whoever it is you're applying for that your former company no longer exists. Any decent background check or a little investigative work will find out about it.
