Just for curiosity sake, does anyone know of a place that requires WEMT?
I figure for most agencies it just looks good on a resume.

Anyone know who wants WEMT?
I imagine SAR teams would want it.

Also, do you get paid more for it? I think it'd be fun, but it is ~$650.

No EMS agency I know of cares, but if you've got nothing else to put on a resume... why not.

No EMS agencies will need or want WEMTs unless they do rural rescue. I know that some hunting expedition leaders and raft guides are WEMTs.

Not in Washington State. Here it's just basic EMT.

Nope.

It seems to be a mostly usless "let's go play EMT in the woods" course unless you plan on only working in the wild, in a national park or as a camp counselor. Save your money and just take a basic EMT class.

I'm already in an EMT-B course, I was just thinking it would be fun.

FYI - with very very very very few exceptions, SAR doesn't pay.

Some expedition companies, camps and such require it, but most of those jobs have titles other than EMT/WEMT and it is not your primary job description, if that makes any sense. I've mostly seen it required or preferred for outdoor instructor/guide type positions.

There are some outdoor guiding companies that require their leaders to have WEMT or WFR. (Outwardbound/NOLS type places). My SAR team required first aid and CPR but there was the expectation that we would be working on getting our WFR or WEMT.
