I did a WEMT course with NOLS a couple months ago and received my EMT-B cert and was wondering if anyone could help me with an idea of where in Los Angeles I could get my EMT-Intermediate training, been looking for some hours now and would appreciate help. =) Thanks.

Los Angeles, and most of California, does not recognize the EMT-Intermediate (EMT-II in California). As such, there are only a few schools that do EMT-II training. In California, it is against state law to displace paramedics (ALS) with the use of intermediates ("limited ALS") providers.

California EMT-II programs:

Click EMT-II tab at the bottom.

There are, on the other hand, plenty of places that provide paramedic education in and around LA. There's oodles of threads on them all here (I swear sometimes half our members come from LA).

I'd suggest, if you want to be an ALS provider, just becoming a medic. With LA County protocols, you'll be able to do about what an Intermediate does in the states that still have them. :)

Wow, thank you both for the info. and advice :), much appreciated. I have been thinking of just becoming a paramedic just seems like the sensible thing to do.

Also, the upcoming changes to adopt the National Scope of Practice Model mean that EMT-Intermediate is a level on its way out. Some Intermediates will have to upgrade to Paramedic, while others will become Advanced EMTs (AEMT) with a different scope of practice.
